this isn’t a new concept. The word “assassin” is an ancient Arabic term for “users of hashish”; and was originally also a sect of radical Islamic militants from the Middle Ages.
Although many sources stated the term was used more by their enemies in a similar way to how IS are called Daesh in some areas; and there is little evidence that hashish was used to motivate the troops to fight harder (it would have the opposite effect) having anything to do with war / military killing people or even non-lethal civillian surveillance work is psychologically very demanding and PTSD is very common.
The use of cannabis and other “party” drugs can help folk cope with this.
