  • Hi guys,

i hope this is the right section to post my request. Otherwise please feel free to move it to the proper one.

My name is Fabian and I need your help. I am currently studying psychology in Vienna and for my master thesis I am interested in long-term cannabis users and their history. If you are consuming for at least 10 years, you could really help me. The goal of this study is to get a complete view of cannabis users and addiction, without prejudices or stigmatization, but with sensitive feeling for risks and possible negative consequences.

So please tell me your story! What positive and negative effects did you experience with cannabis? How did you start? When did you start? Did you develop any symptoms? Any habituation? Did your cannabis usage lead to harder drugs or were they independent from each other? Or did you only consume cannabis, not even alcohol? How did cannabis affect your social life? Were there financial problems? Did you buy/sell cannabis yourself or were you growing your own?

Every word you tell me will be treated completely anonymous! I will not use nicknames either! Only references like consumer#1, etc.

Please feel free to tell me everything you find important. If you feel uncomfortable, write me a PN. Your help is really appreciated!

    Thank you for your time!

    Kind regards,
    Fabian

PS: non-native speaker here, so please have mercy 😉

is this only for current users or those who have used in the past but since stopped?

I used cannabis fairly regularly from 1988 until about 2005; as well as various other drugs. I wouldn’t say it was a gateway as such as I was always interested in all kinds of substances. Never got into serious crime or dealing, The only negative effects of it (other than it meant i also regularly smoked tobacco) were that I didn’t do as well in education and occasionally suffered paranoia but the educational courses were not ones I wanted to do anyway.

When the paranoia got too much I just stopped taking cannabis (I also found it made me tired and I prefer stimulants or to be mentally and physically active). It did not affect my social life; quite the opposite as I rarely used it alone and to get the stuff I would have to meet up with friends anyway.

I’ll have a think about this but one thing I will say now is that if I hadn’t been drinking, I doubt I’d have tried cannabis when I did and I think if you want to consider whether cannabis use leads to other, harder drugs, then it should be strongly made clear that alcohol is the drug that leads even people who would never consider drugs to try them.

Thank you very much for your answers.

it is for everyone, who has /had at least 10 years experiences with cannabis. also with brakes or therapy between.

yeah, i know that alcohol can be highly dangerous in that case, because it makes you take risks you otherwise would not deal with. But as i have to say, alcohol is no main topic of my thesis, so i can’t write about that 😉

    kind regards,
    fabian
