you’re whole life can be a continuous process of looking up and looking down. its a trick of ego to ensure you’ll never really be content. yes when i was 20 i may have thought 30 was old, but also now im 30 i think i didn’t really know my thumb from my dick wen i was 20 and probably this cycle will repeat continuously and at 40 my 30yr self will still be at the other end of this imagined spectrum… thats not to say that we’re not ‘old’ as you say, but i would now hope to better recognise what it is to begrudge time passing and to look at youth as ‘the pinnacle.’
we don’t have to live in a warped sense of moment and if others do then thats their path to err ‘destiny.’ imo this ageist way of thinking is an inferred misery of society.. one that is designed so that if u cling to it and at any point of the spectrum you will feel some sense of restlessness. it is potential energy outside of our sphere of influence and so finding self worth in it points only in one direction… but this is only if u ‘buy in’ and exists only in imagination. ofc u can really enjoy yourself at any age and at any moment feel contentment
