naah don’t dry up mushies, you kill the psilocybin making them weaker!

your misinformed sorry it makes no difference to the psilocybin content wet or dry
if u picking and eating them straight away id just chew them up if you have brought them who knows how long they have been sitting around in the bags? and if they sweat and get mould grow on them (already being a mould) they become toxic and can make you violently ill

I’ve eaten dried shrooms they’re considerably weaker. I find them much easier to eat wet as well.

I know how unstable tryptamines can be… i’ve seen 4-aco-dmt turn brown over time and the same thing happens to mushrooms.. they turn brown and degrade and shrivel up really small.

ive had both aswell and have had exactly the same results dried and wet with batches from my own source i dont want to argue about it things are very differant for differant people and it may be that some responses in some people are altered from another persons i personally think it makes no difference and is no scientific facts eitherway but i have found the honey brings on my trip quicker that was all i was saying please still show me the sex kwon do moves i dont want this to affect our master/sensee relationship

    thats what happened to mine?!!

According to all of the myco geeks on the shroomery, drying shouldnt effect potency if done correctly and is the best way to store your shrooms.

    It’s not an argument dude.

OK i may of been slightly wrong, it’s apparently the Psilocin not the Psilocybin which degrades when they dry.

Find me evidence on sites saying ‘Psilocin and Baecystin do not degrade out of mushrooms in the drying process’ and i’ll believe you.

Factual evidence is needed to change my mind.

Psilocybin and psilocin are sensitive to oxidation, with psilocin being particularly sensitive. This process is accelerated at higher temperatures. There is no specific temperature at which this breakdown occurs, however, the longer you expose the psiloc(yb)in to a raised temperature (in the presence of oxygen or an oxidizer), the more will be degraded.

To my knowledge, there has been no study or report of anyone quantifying the amount of degradation at various temperatures. Qualitative reports however seem to indicate that less than an hour of boiling or steeping seems to have little to no effect on the potency of psiloc(yb)in water solution.

Ask Erowid : ID 2984 : At what temperatures do psilocybin and psilocin degrade?

Fresh mushrooms feel a lot stronger than dry equivalent. They do lose potency after being kept a while as dry but it’s pretty minimal if you store them well. Cilica gel and a cool, dark place is a must.

everything degrades in time, humans included! so if i were to try say it didnt i would be a fool its just the psilocybin content that i care about and thats not affected if dried correctly. i have never kept them for more than 3 or 4 month so cannot say past that and have never thought to test the temperature of my airing cupboard. and personally prefer them dried and have personally never had problems with any kind of dried shrooms i find they are easier to do and less mass to stomach they not nice however u do them so i just like less to eat/drink if it affected the potency would shamans have them in that state to use when fresh wasnt available? having said that and seeming a tad contradictory i think everything is better when fresh its i find shrooms easier when dry like that is all im saying i dont want to find scientific information either way really i looked into in the past but if you find new information otherwise i will read it and absorb it as new/revised information on which i base future decisions upon :awe:

Unfortunately if you happen accross a large amount of cubensis shrooms, unless you are at a free party, you are not going to want all of them while they are still fresh.

Therefore there is no choice but to dry them if you want to preserve them.

Plus the Amazonian buggers that I have stumbled upon are seriously strong mushrooms!

If you dry them out using certain techniques (a mesh with some dessicant in a bowl is a good one, there are guides online) you minimise the loss while still preserving them. You can’t keep them wet for very long or else the degradation happens a lot faster.

Exactly, if they start to get any kind of fungus growth on them after they are picked then you have to pretty much bin them.

I think alcohols to blame , tis usually the case !

Everybody knows that they are better fresh. But if you wanna keep them you have to dry them.

I’d just like to chip in – Liberty caps (psilocybe semilanceata) the most common shroom in the uk, contain very little psilocin. Hence they actually don’t lose much strength when dried. It’s also not the drying that makes them less potent, but the oxidization.
Other shrooms have considerably large amounts of psilocin, and therefore DO lose a lot of potency over time.
I’m very interested in magic mushrooms/mycology in general, and also frequent the shroomery lol..

OH – and obviously heat destroys the compounds, but imo if your heat drying them you’re just impatient. Good things come to those who wait.. good things in this case being more potent mushrooms 🙂
