they grew on the fields of my old high school at least until the early 90s. I’m not sure though if the class of ’92 onwards fucked up the mycelium by greedily caning the lot or the Council used some sort of chemical warfare on them on the advice of thames valley police – or todays kids may be even ignoring Nature’s bounty and doing mephedrone instead… sadly what I do remember is when they were briefly legal and sold in head shops teenage kids were caning fuckloads in class and (predictably) freaking out and frightening their teachers who had the kids bluelighted off to the nearest hospital for observation, and that was one factor in the things being made illegal.
There are chemicals what can destroy the mycelium of these shrooms and many others. Its a really unpleasant nasty thing to do to the soil and risks long term environmental damage (the shrooms are part of the ecosystem and there for a reason) but unfortunately they do get deployed in some Council areas especially when folk bleat about “safe environments for children….”
for every mushroom bearing field they should build on it either an off license, a tesco, or a kebab and then we can sleep easy knowing our children are safe
Thats actually what they’ve done in Essex (although its also because they are selling off the playing fields anyway). I didn’t believe it at first when people were saying this was going on as my sources were prone to believing conspiracy theories and I found it hard to believe rural folk would be stupid enough to fuck up the eco system like that (these fungi help reprocess and distribute nutrients). Hopefully this bad practice (which involves large quantities of nasty chemicals and is barely allowed in Europe, we probably lobbied the EU to accept it) hasn’t spread too far across the land.
you’d like to think that ‘rural folk’ would be more in touch with nature, but for some reason people that own land often seem to have an abundance of chemicals..; competing against nature rather than working with it… (actually u could probably say that about the whole of humanity thus far, but then there’s no pointy finger fun in that)
this is in the Grauniad today. As at 17:22 the head picture appears to be authentic liberty caps (it would be completely against journalistic ethics to claim otherwise). I have also attached it here, I wouldn’t normally nick a copyrighted picture in this way but this is done in the interests of harm reduction.. Can’t help but think that someone at Faringdon Road deliberately put this picture there for that reason anyway as the article is about edible mushrooms :laugh_at:

The main distinguishing feature of liberty caps (as you can kind of see in this pic) is the nipple shaped top. If your shrooms are blunt ended or rounded then they are NOT liberties!
They are pretty easy to find to be fair. If they’re big enough as well pinch them and they should bruise blue (psilocybin). If they’re small which a lot of them are pinching doesn’t seem to work.

im gon go looking so i think, try some sheep fields, and bring my noob pics here… its still too warm at night tho i think if this 10C thing is true… feels really warm tho at night … here
i’ve got images of badgers shrooming it after reading that article lol
Yeah still doesn’t feel like mushy season yet.
Yeah that’s right but it differs from year to year now.
It must be something to do with global warming.
My shroom field is giving me some nice liberty caps-
at the moment but it has not fully blossomed as of yet.
The start of November is when the shroomies come out ingreat numbers.
i was approached in the field today by some friendly amateurpickers who
were holding a hand full of mushrooms non psilocybin ,so Igave them a liberty cap in good faith.
I just love being in the field with the little beautiesflicking and snipping them all day.
