  • My new laptop charger just started smoking, I warned it about the long tern heath problems from smoking but it just won’t listen.

NAh but really it started melting on the lead just before the adapter plugs in. fucking joke man. What if that had happened while I was in bed or out or something. it may may started a fucking fire FFS. Anyway I gotta keep this sort and sweet guys cos i’m all out of juice, infact the 7 minutes pop up just came up so I guess this is goodbye : (

Oh yeah fucking workmen outside doing fucking cycle lane shit. Changing it to a green colour. : ( Noisy basteds!!.

Oh yeah BTW the bell ringers didn’t ring their bells tonight ??? how strange. unless it was them doing the cycle ,lane????????

You should be able to return that for a refund (photograph it and the receipt first) – it is dangerous and potentially illegal. I assume you mean the 230V lead burned. Although hopefully in the UK the plug top fuse would stop the current it is still unsafe.

If the computer shop whines say you will borrow a computer from a friend in London and this story will be all over one of the World’s most popular internet sites for dance music.

If it’s one of them cheap ones off ebay, it’s most likely hand build by some dude with the know, rather then a proper big company what are supposed to make these things and sell them full price. He’s still got to abide by the law though and is selling it under well documented means, so if you just politely message him he’ll probably shit his pants and do everything to make it up to you in order for him to continue what he does without hassle.

230V kit shouldn’t set fire whether its in Shanghai or Sussex and anyone making such can be nicked in either country. do folk really hand build small SMPSUs though? I thought China factories turned them out by the boatload and there were loads of clone ones for every laptop. I have got a cheaper one for the Tosh used for streaming but it is checked over every so often (as is any mains kit here) for any problems and its on the UPS monitored feed so an overload would trigger a power alarm…

Yeah you’re probably right about it being cheap factories, I’m pretty sure hand build stuff like this is about though, more maplin built cables mind you.

I got a shitty laptop charger off ebay before and it lasted me all of mby 2-3 weeks before it fell apart! I had to fix it my self with electrical tape (The only soldering iron I have is about 50 years old and probably more dangerous to use then the charger in this state!).

I think you do get the audio cables like that, also the soldering and the crossover inside the Norfolk kiddy rig speakers isn’t the best either, thin cheap cable – might redo it when I can be bothered.

the (slightly) cheaper replacement chargers made by Trust etc aren’t too bad because they sell them in big ICT catalogues for corporate clients and don’t want a bad name. Mind you I think mine was supposed to be £30 but it was at ASDA for £15 – I got it also because its a two pin euro plug and doesn’t have the mains filter what contaminates your audio…

actually it wouldn’t surprise me if was that what went up in the1logs PSU, putting cheap components into something like this (which by its nature is going to be alive to the mains whenever its plugged in) is just asking for trouble

Now that I ave defeated the evil faulty DC lead I now have to do battle with the evil NHS fracture clinic today. This should be a barral of laughs. ATM i’m waiting for the hospital transport ambulance to turn up. The appointment is at 11.15 and it takes about 15 TO 20 mins to get there so. WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY!!

Anyway back to the charger lead. GL is was the 230v lead that went doolally. I got it when I bought the adapter about 2 months ago. He did say it cost 2.99 but he gave it me for free cos I had just been given a public bollocking by my misiss for spending loadsa money that week, and he felt sorry for me. Maybe he was trying to kill us after all?? Or maybe not. His shop is closed al day on wednesdays soI’ll just have a word with him tomoz just to let him know what happened. I bought another one for the other computer shop down the road in the meantime.

Anyway i’m off to do battle.

    Good vibes

Hmmm… now that is ODD. I can’t think of any good reason why the live 230V mains wire would melt before anything else…

… unless the wire was substandard, because surely the fuse should have blown in the plug before the wire melted…

Hope you luck changes man. Manufacture of luck and good karma is an ongoing struggle against random nonsense and life’s great farce. All just my opinion of course.

“May be farce be without you.” 🙂

The guy in the shop was equally as baffeled as we are TBH, he immidiatly check for the 5amp fuse because he thought that a 12 had been put in by mistake or something. But He was worried. He checked over all the stock and they have all changed to the new ones with the black plug and white fuse housing. He was like ” were fortunate that you caught it in time” and indeed I was cos clearly the fuse wasn’t going to stop it from burning cos it was smoking away. But anyway he offered me another one but I refused cos he gave me that one to begin with.
