  • Right well basically I bought my sound system a year ago and it is only really for personal listning pleasure and the odd house party. From looking on here though I see a lot of people are opting to build their own sound systems using amps and bass bins etc. What I was wondering though was how does my sound system compare to some of the custom built ones people have, bearing in mind it is only for my own personal use rather than using it as a Rig (I’d need a hell of a lot more than this for a rig obviously)?

    Heres what I have

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-021-LG

Think I paid around £200 for them

can’t really compare the two mate, yours is a home cinema type stereo thing, which im sure is alright for that purpose, but would be way to small for parties. Where as a good rig is ace for parties, but you wouldnt really want a 10k function 1 system in your frontroom as it would blow your ears apart!

aye im aware its 2 small for free parties etc, but was more curious as to how it compared to other peoples custom systems that they use purely for their own personal listning.i was surprised at the power of the logitechs as at full volume you can feel the bass throughout the house and stuff starts falling off my desk etc :weee: also the sound quality is superb even with an average soundcard (i play all my music through my pc).

    ah i see i thought it was a bit of a strange comparison… 😉

hehe, yeh im not knowledgable in the world of rigs, but I do know that my speakers don’t even touch the power in a full rig 😉

well as soon as IAG get my crossovers thru ill have two 600w wharfedale lix15s, wont need them full, but will be nice for small gatherings

I use a logitech comp speaker set thingy ma jig for practicing dj’ing at home … plus for me p.c aswell … dont watch television really so thats me lot 🙂

ive built myself some small 8 inch mid his(125w rms) and run them crossed over at 200hz with a 10 inch car sub(400w rms) in a bandpass enclosure i built, it has some serious kick, hits 115db at 1 meter(a weighted) but also sounds pretty good. the sytem is powered from a Toa DPA-800 amp running the sub of channel 1 (at 4 ohm@400w) and the mid highs on channel 2(4ohm@200w)

it kicks any thing made by creative in the arse(trust me ive compared!) and my sound engineer friend says they sound pretty good compared to his Adam a7’s.

ive done a few small parties with the system and it works, not enough low end outdoors but its good enough.

id recommend you building some speakers, all you need is basic DT skills and someone elses design.

the mid highs cost me(for everything eg paint etc) £70 and the sub cost £90, the amp was free but for something similar and cheaper your looking for around 150 quid or for something with a bit more power a matrix ukp-1300 for 220 quid.

if your interested in building some, you can use my design as a base and ive got freq responce charts and spl charts to back it all up too.

Thanks for the advice mate :). I’ve actually already got the logitechs and was just wondering how they compared to custom systems such as yours. If I do decide to start building my own rig though (the thought has crossed my mind along with a few of my pals) then I’ll give you a shout for some advice if thats ok

hehe, iv already experienced the magik that is stumblefunk 😉 frequented the tent at Beat-Herder this year.

and I’m travelling down on the thursday, picking some pals up in carlisle then heading to the site.still need to get directions though.what day you heading there?

    Yes I would :surprised

But yeh that would be orrible.

The lovely chap that gave us all our stuff has a full sound system in his livin room. Can hardly move!

Obviously he doesn’t use it in there though. Takes up a good half the room.
