i’ve noticed this since 2001, basically, and it pisses me off. people my age and older are gettin more and more nationalist, hate of other nations, racist, tension, but its mostly fuelled by ignorance. however there are more people with intelligence and knowledge who argue for nationalism and imperialism than those with intelligence who fight for socialism/peace/liberalism etc.
it’s frustratin, the general opinions of people my age is nothin short of a subtle bnp/national front
it pisses me off. a lot. fuck fascism.
I’m quite patriotic but in no way ignorant, nationalist or fascist. The rise of the far right isnt just the fault of ignorance its also the fault of the government and its economics.
Racism is blind ignorance and is a scape goat used by the far right. But until the government has the courage to address certain issues over its economics the far right will continue to rise.
Ps I also think socialism is abit dodgy.
Socialism has it’s faults (they all do) but is the most viable option in my opinion, for our country. Socialism has been quite successful for us so far, but we are moving more and more into Yank-style capitalism. Communism is great in theory but completely unrealistic and no-one wants totalitarianism/fascism so really we haven’t got a viable political structure. Marxism ain’t a bad concept at all.
I’m not surprised racism is on the rise as young people are constantly told “you must compete with india/china” (or immigrants in their own countries) for jobs, and this competition is indeed ruthless.
It is driven by the market demands of the older generation – consumers driving down prices and bosses driving down wages (ironically many of the same lot who outwardly claim to be patriotic)
Of course youths are going to end up hating their perceived rivals – thats what competition is all about, in the same way some footballers hate their rivals (or even their team mates) to the point where they will often try physical violence against them if it isn’t for the presence of refs or security or even the cops!
Its certainly starting to bite at street level as even people who normally were quite internationalist like ravers are getting angry when they see easy jobs going to immigrants (but often because immigrants are more likely to work weekends).
Also a lot of people get envious when they see people from other countries who have studied and worked hard getting decent jobs and a lot of money.
Its not always ignorance either, its the anger and hate of the loser straight from the heart as they have lost the race to others. This is the flipside of ruthless capitalism.
I’m not sure if there is an easy solution though – socialism can be equally totalitarian. A social democratic nation which balances the demands of the market with society is a good idea, but the European nations which have had such a government have themselves introduced more social control and yet still turned to the right at recent democratic elections.
yeah fair points GL, but there is so much racism against middle eastern “pakis” any country like saudi, iran, irag, palestine has loadsa hate directed to them as inferior and animals, and if u try to say anythin is the fault of that west you get lambasted
on the iraq war protests equally people were shoutin “bomb the iraqis” it dusnt make any sense to me

I think thats all part of the same thing – once again its competition, this time for resources.
These countries became “enemies” since the mid 1970s when they started asserting themselves and increasing up the price of oil rather than just selling it cheaply to the West.
Then there has also been a backlash in the Islamic world who feel they are being exploited because of this oil (although their own leaders don’t help matters). Many Western countries have a lot of influential middle eastern businessmen, they have families and particularly young male children who are fighting back in a different way (leading to Islamic radicalism), and ironically the West often indirectly arms these countries as no one wants to turn down a lucrative arms deal
Its can be horribly complicated as one year a country is an ally and next year its an enemy (for instance Saddam Hussein was supported by the West for many years) but deep down I think its just a fight over money and power and religion is used as a smokescreen.
You often don’t hear people saying “bomb the Inuits” or “Nuke outer mongolia” because there isn’t any oil in their countries (well there may be oil in Outer Mongolia but the Chinese will have it).
Think you’ll be able to party under a Marxist government? It’s just fascism without the race card! :you_crazy
I’d fight communism as much as I’d fight fascism.
Nothing boils my piss like hearing people talking ill informed racist shite.
The most uncomfortable situations are when I challenge people I have known and respected for years for doing this. The thing which annoys me is that I know for a fact that in reality they, like me, take people as they find them, regardless of ethnicity etc.
It is obviously a massive and complex issue, but here is a slant on the situation on the ground. I work in an area where there are a lot of African families who have not been in our country long. It is fantastic to see the way they live, a sense of family and community, kids playing out with a bike or a football. This is in contrast to my best friends situation. He lives in an area with lots of single men who have come to our country. He tells me of things such as groups from different countries fighting in the street and his wife being propositioned like a prostitute when going to their house.
The negative stuff I have outlined can easily transfer into people hating foreigners. (thankfully not my mate)
While I hate racism, and feel that immigration has and does make out country a better and more interesting place to live, it certainly brings with it it’s problems.
Answers on a postcard. (do they still say that)
I’d fight communism as much as I’d fight fascism.
concept not practice
so, u dont like socialism, communism, facism, marxism – what do you like? we cant have no system atl all

Yes we can! And I’ve seen it work!
I certainly dont want extremism like communism or fascism. I value what freedom we have to much. I think the millions upon millions of people killed in the first half of the 20th century are testimony that Marxism doesn’t work.
I’ll always keep a wee bit of the Berlin wall next to my bed as testimony that.

total anarchy works?
I was on 4 temporary contract with work until i was permanent, the reason i was on Temp contracts and they weren’t renewed is because every job i had got outsourced to either India or the Philippines.
So i can see why people will have these feeling, i don’t resent the countries the work is sent too its the companies doing it.
Having lived in that enviroment I can say it does. Depends how you see Anarchy.
how do you see it?
while i don’t agree with the sentiments of anti-immigration, there are a load of regulations that fuel anger and lead to hatred…
one being; foreign man arrives in england, rapes woman, goes to prison, UK taxpayers pay
the EU is a massive waste of resources. the most important thing they discussed this year was cheaper telephone calls between EU countries
at a cost of billions of ££s to EU taxpayers
the EU is a total joke right now and achieves very little. that might sound like a right wong opinion, but is actually the opinion of someone who supports economic and ecological sustainability; something that the EU is an insult to
