The machine is it’s own default gateway? If you’re using a router that’s not right…

Give us the output from “netstat -r”

Dude, that’s LOOOOOOOONG! You want me to copy it down on paper and type it on here? What bit specifically did you need to know?

Trying GLs completely shutting down thing. hope it starts up again.

it would have been the number under “gateway”. but if this was the same as the computers IP address, that means its trying route all the data back on itself.

it is like someone with a small pet dog like a jack russel, which he has trained to go out through a pet door (the gateway) and fetch a newspaper (external traffic) that has been left on the porch.

but instead, the dog forgets where the door is, and walks round in circles instead. that way the dude won’t be able to get the newspaper until he can get the dog to remember the way through.

It’s fixed! It was fucking McAffee I fully uninstalled it and now we have web and networking again.

But no antivirus. Not the end of the world.

Cheers for the help though guys. I was freaking out! I was having to copy stuff from my hard drive onto a memory stick just so I could watch stuff on TV but now we’re all good.

Glad it’s working again! I use Avast on my windows install for anti-virus, seems to do the trick! Windows is a total slut, so you don’t wanna let it go catching anything… 😉

if you need a free one microsoft security essentials isn’t that bad – I use it on all my PC’s and it does its job and doesn’t hog resources of lag up the PC. I did use Avast but its more resource hungry and I am very careful what pages I visit and where I get software from..
