  • Looks like the outside was painted by banksey’s great grandad :laugh_at:

Came home form walking the dogs today to find the summons taped to the front door. Turns out we were grassed up by a copper who emailed the pub chain and told them we were there. So many thanks to WPC Sharon Conway. We’re in court on the 24th but might get lucky and get it adjourned.

Thames Valley Police have been doing the same for years. Although squatting is a civil matter, in common law any citizen (not just a constable) can report trespass to the “rightful” owners of the property. Here in a relatively rural area, land and property owners often look out for one another and also work with the cops to report anyone they think is squatting very quickly…

given the history of the building it is however well known to the cops, apparently the pub went out of business as it was broken into and robbed of cash/fruit machine money etc..

A strange phenomenon I’ve noticed in SE England was it was harder to squat a working class area than a middle class area as the working class would dob you in quicker or even try vigilanté stuff. Easiest places to hold long term in SE England were office and warehouse buildings from the 1980s which do not have modern structured cabling and thus are more costly for IT-based businesses to rent. In East Anglia, however, this property is in high demand and rarely left empty.

incidentally in the areas of Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds (large towns in predominantly rural areas), young squatters have managed to keep a relatively positive image, but they have still not been granted any licence to occupy places, the best that has happened is that the Council is planning building more hostels and advice centres for young homeless people.

Interesting you say that, there’s a squat very near to me in a very middle class little town, even opened up their own cafe. Seem to have no trouble and have interrogated fully, its even in the middle of the town centre.

shit man how quickly can they kick you out? does this happen a lot with squatting? I dont think my anxiety could take it!

You generally get 14 days but i reckon theres a case for a bit longer. Found a new place today anyway, another pub.

can be 14 days to several months depending on the whims of the property owner.

EVICTED! actually left a couple of weeks ago so back on the road at the mo. Fucking wanker judge didn’t even read our defence. Never mind they have boarded it back up as badly as they did before so its only a matter of time till someone gets back in.
