A while back DJ Mumbles from Toronto mentioned that there were less trance events in Canada than before (which tends to indicate local and national authorities becoming paranoid about drug use/culture). ATB (André Tannebaum) warned Americans that the “EDM boom” will burn itself out quickly, like it did in some European countries – even in NL and DE the scene is downsized compared to the 90s/early 2000s, and its even more downsized (to the point of being balkanised into poorer areas) in the UK which is culturally far closer to the USA than any other EU nation!
TBH I feel sllightly sorry for “nightclub” as what is worse is I don’t think he’s fake, he’s just got his brain stuck somewhere in the 1990s. I don’t even think the dude does drugs either, its just the bullshit overoptimism what is taught in some unis because they want to keep gullible middle class families handing over the cash for tuition fees.
I’ve encountered a lot of folk like him here in England around the same age group – not so much my age as anyone what still thought like that would either be bankrupt, in prison or sectioned and younger people (teens/20s) do realise in the back of their minds the real state of the world/society/economy, even if they don’t always want to talk about it – but its an agegroup where folk have only grown up with good times and abundance in business and pleasure so are not surprisingly addicted to superficial things. Its why a lot of people join up here and then fuck off as soon as they find that there aren’t loads of illegal raves happening any more and party drugs aren’t always as easy to come by either (as its not worth a dealer holding them and risking prison if there is no music scene in their area).
