n,
have you seen that film, what the bleep do we know? very interesting theories about quantum mechanics… i saw it a couple of years ago and it really changed how i thought about things. need to watch it again, reading this thread just reminded me about how crazy the film was.
I tried to watch “What the bleep” on DVD recently, and thought it was the biggest pile of cods I’ve ever wasted time watching. I started making notes of some of the stupidest statements in it, intending to write about it on my weblog. By the time I’d got to three pages of scribble, about half an hour in, I decided the film was so loony that it wasn’t even worth watching, never mind writing about – so gave up and turned it off.
Basically its premise seems to be this:
Quantum mechanics says that quantum particles are affected by the act of observation;
Therefore you can affect quantum particles just by wishing they are going to do something;
Therefore you can change your life at the macroscopic scale just by wishing for things to happen;
but you don’t need to worry anyway cos God made the world and Jesus loves you.
A lot of this is in the form of weasel words and run-on sentences – you do have to watch it with your ears open. But it’s basically a US evangelistic film disguised as science.
did anyone watch that myth busters series?
one of the things they tried to disprove was an experiment that observed particles of H2O as they froze
particles should freeze into a perfect shape / form
there was an experiment in the early 20th century where people were asked to say negative words (like “hate” “war” “rape”) to freezing water
the molecules froze in deformed structures
myth busters repeated the experiment but could only confirm the findings
we have powers to influence the physics of the universe in positive or negative ways, although we don’t understand how this works, scientifically / mentally speaking. only our spirit / soul can understand this
i believe in much more than science and logic. maybe evolution of the soul will one day be considered as ‘logical’ as development of scientific method
according to science ‘we’ only use 10% of our brains. bearing in mind a few intelligent people who are likely at 20%, the majority are dragging the average right down
if you compared most people’s brain activity to a gastro pub, the only activity would be the warm pie shelf light was on
if the few people who try to expand the mind push it on, who knows what we will discover

urgh! i feel all dirty! im gonna go and read my dianetics book.

thats what i heard too & that water experiment. Have you got any links for that myth busters thing?
I have personally witnessed a place which had “bad energy” cause wireless communications equipment to malfunction across a spectrum of 27 – 900 MHz
it was otherwise a perfect location for the use of such comms equipment, what happened there defied any scientific logic…

We use some of the missing percent all the time but it can’t be scientifically measured and people just don’t want to believe.
The rest that we don’t know about is, i reckon, because we’re not meant to yet, we’re just not ready. Until we buck our collective ideas up we don’t deserve it, who knows if we ever will
There is also the hubris angle, who says that us monkeys are even meant to figure it all out?
the old 10% quote, wonder when that’n’d be coming out! what people always omit from that little jewel is that it is supposed to read “scientists believe we only use ten percent of our brains at any one time“! you wouldn’t want to use all of a brain the size of (most of) ours anyway, not only would it be somewhat confusing, but would in all likelihood give you a rather nasty head-ache.
too right mate, im still young and ive already fried too much of my brain, im hangin onto the last 60% that i ‘dont use’ :laugh_at:
Anybody here read any social constructionist theory because it may help in the finding of the answers searched. Believe we just exist may be the only way?
why is this thread always appearing on my unread posts when av read probably 10 times?
i posted something before and it vanished! Theres two of these threads..it must have been the other one..aaargh am confused
me too
