its a really long and complex crime story (the English explanation / wikipedia article is below) but the Dutch song is a simplified version of the various allegations.

Joran Van De Sloot is a rich kid who grew up in Aruba which is a bit of the West Indies the Dutch still have as a colony. He went off on a large boat with the girl (Natalie Holloway) and two lads from Surinam, and they all did a load of drugs. Only the three lads came back.

So Van De Sloot is accused of murdering her, and having dumped her body in the sea. He even bragged about pimping her out on some undercover reporter show but then claims his mates did it instead and he had gone to bed after watching a porno.

its still not proven what exactly happened to Natalee Holloway – but later on De Sloot (not featured in this song) then tries to blackmail Ms Holloway’s family and then gets with this other girl in another country (I think it is Peru) who finds out about his crime and is nicked for beating and murdering her, so he is now in jail for all these other crimes..

The incident in this thread happened in 2005. I think the other incident was in Thailand in 2006, young female British tourist raped and murdered by locals. Coincidentally, Van de Sloot is supposed to have run a business there and also been a pimp!

There are fuckloads of these sorts of incidents in foreign holiday destinations with both male and female victims. I think one dude from round this way went to Thailand, disappeared and has still not been found (not even his body)…

just searched and not found the Thailand chap (was in EDP24) – we did put out an appeal for one lad from Norwich went missing after clubbing (sadly he climbed into a UK power networks substation and was sparked) and this chap from European travels (who may still be missing)

but they do indeed sometimes board the yachts of all the yuppies and search them, as HMRC suspect that small craft owners might be tempted to bring items in from NL etc..
