  • A violent attack of this nature seems relatively unusual for youth football in NL (or anywhere, even England, when occasional scuffles happen they tend to be amongst the adult teams) and worrying on a larger scale, as one reason NL has such a tolerant society is that young people usually adhere to basic standards of conduct…

A Dutch man has died after being kicked and punched by a group of teenage football players for whom he acted as linesman in a Sunday league match.

Richard Nieuwenhuizen collapsed and was taken to hospital hours after he was beaten by three players from Amsterdam club Nieuw Sloten. He died on Monday.

damn those footballers! I hate how uk football fans call all other teams scum n stuff such a hateful sport.

one team always loses and ones always the better victorious team.

this is why i like skateboarding, you can tell they’re all friends and they each bring their own brand of skill to the table and sometimes 2nd place arguably in peoples eyes is better than 1st but this is IME always stated as an opinion not a fact and people don’t get super angry about it.

I’m not a great football fan myself but most games especially at the amateur level are relatively peaceful to be fair. there will always be disagreements in competitive sport by its very nature, but the other aspect of it is it reflects very badly on how these youngsters behave in groups. Football matches in NL seem to be as much of a passion as trance and hardstyle events…

Yeah i read this in the news earlier, i was shocked to say the least. I really thought if this was to happen anywhere it would have been here or in eastern europe, where there is a culture of violence surrounding the sport

NL football is not as “clean” as people think, there are incidents but not always reported. This article in the Grauniad is similar to one in the Volkskrant (and saves me translating a very long in depth article which would take me a lot of time). the comments here about parents’ behaviour at youth matches echo concerns this side of the North Sea!
