because of austerity, the basic student grants in the Netherlands will be replaced by loans (similar to what happened in the UK starting from 20 years ago)
new Dutch students will be paying up to €12 000 fees over the duration of a normal course (still cheaper than here)
also students who have not graduated after 6 years must pay a extra “long studies charge”
