the charges got dropped not because the cops want to encourage partying but they pissed on their own chips.
some twat of a wannabe robocop roughed up one of toms mates (who was already injured and had a leg in a plaster cast!) (there is a thread elsewhere) and then tried deleting the footage from the phone in front of witnesses, and this incident was discussed in public on here and no doubt facebook etc.
the smarter cops in the CID read this forum every few days (they use the same resources for tracking murderers and medium level drug dealers and other serious crime) and would have seen our discussions. they also know the media monitor this forum too and that trying to charge the ravers when they can counterclaim Police brutality is going to be bad PR for a constabulary which is otherwise doing well public relations wise.
But if they were tolerating the party they wouldn’t have attempted to seize the rig in the first place and one thing they get really jittery about is ravers from SE England swelling then numbers already present (it was partly the reason why my own friends got judged and punished particularly harshly (prison+entire rig destroyed) a few years back.
the cops across the East are also determined not to “let things slip” even if there are budget cuts. they are permitted to use the serious crime/anti terrorism budgets against larger events (1000 people plus) with folk from other areas…
