Yep that attitude also exists in most small to medium size market town / rural areas and is very ancient dating back centuries. The influence from London to EA is recent in comparison, since the trains and roads were built and also a lot of working class folk from London being relocated into such places as Haverhill and Thetford as Britain ran out of space for light industry (and people!) nearer the capital.
