British Telecom used the spare bit of capacity on the telephone cables that controlled all the sirens to provide our broadband, and Ofcom have sold the frequencies for the VHF radiotelephone and other associated comms kit on the market for the use of taxicab companies, builders etc.
The BBC are supposed to warn us but they are always being downsized. I expect david Cameron will probably send a tweet or update his facebook status to warn us :crazy_diz
