if you like rape jokes so much, maybe we should organise for you to be raped and then we can all have a joke about it? 🙂

Sounds good, who’s gonna be doing the raping? Susan Boyle? mmm.
My point was if its so bad to joke about rape.. why is it not bad to joke about murder etc.? That still destroys peoples families and lives too?

It is viewed as bad in some areas like my town where a lot of young people have been murdered or gone missing (the 5 girls were just a small proportion of them but the most notorious case in recent times, there also been a lot of young men killed in sketchy arguments often which escalated from things what were just “banter”), comedians have been criticised and near booed off the stage for making jokes about lorry drivers and dead prostitutes. I can fully understand why and don’t think its a excessive limitation on free speech given the circumstances.

I find that quite offensive
I think most jokes just depends on context.
You get the odd person who jumps in and ruins it for all having a laugh, say for an example :
There’s a string off jokey banter between a few people on a thread and they’re really quite funny although pretty dark and/or dirty, and then one person jumps in and pipes up saying their piece on how offensive everything is and that kills the thread.. That i’m with Deezy, the person should maybe just ignore the thread i guess?
Also everyones type of sense of humors is different, some sarcastic, some aussie, some british, some dry, some wet (nae humor) etc..

So freedom of speech works only one way then?

No, they are allowed to state that they’re offended or whatever (though I don’t know why you would you gain nothing from it) but it doesn’t mean the world should stop. I.e the joke train doesn’t have to end or whatever

Ya… it’s peoples problem if a joke offends them ffs. i think offense is taken not given personally.
also people don’t tell people how to speak and what they can or cannot say, what the fuck is up with that? imagine going up to someone in the street and telling them they have to act a certain way cos you tell them to… you’d get told to fuck off. you go up to someone and moan that their joke offended you and you aren’t allowed to tell it, they can fuck off. I don’t like a lot of things but they’re allowed to exist and if it really bothers me I IGNORE IT. like if i sense a thread going stupid or people to give some long winded reply to my post trying to be smart and cause some sort of lame pointless exchange i just stop viewing the thread. if you don’t like a joke, stop viewing the thread, it’s very very simple.

Personally one the main reasons I comment is I have a voice, I would say the same to people in person if they were being (what I consider offensive) why that should change on here, I don’t know?
and dont forget I am a moderator on here, and I believe part of my duties is to try and moderate at times – and maybe give alternative perspectives of how stuff may come across – Its not just the rape jokes I’ve spoken about over the years I’ve been here, its been racism, homophobia etc etc, and if you want to check the archives you’ll see, maybe its just coz there’s been so much rape jokes recently here, this is why this one is being focused on? And I always will step in if the forum rules have actually been broken – again check the archives
If the thread dies well thats up to the other posters, I find it funny that people will often apologise for their contribution (for some reason I dont know, as if its all fine and dandy why apologise?) and then start up again….. :you_crazy
We have lost ALOT of female posters on here in the last year or so, and all I question is why?
I think about how this site may come across for young females who may want to join the forum and whether they may be put off / intimidated with some of the talk on here?
I dont apologise for my comments on here,
I have never removed anyone’s posts / closed or removed threads for jokes that I find offensive – so I have never stopped peoples freedom, I just say my piece when I want, as I believe in free speech, therefore I am free to say my piece, but I also think about the context it is said in –
……. and as a lot of you may have noticed I have been pretty much ‘ignoring’ most of the posts on this site, however this is also at odds with me being a mod…. so its a tough call do I leave a site I have loved to belong to for the last 7 years? or do I do what I can?
There really never was many females ever on this site in the whole 5 years i’ve been on here i can honestly say i really do think there’s more these days than ever…. please tell me a list of users who used to use this site a lot in the last 5 years cos i can think of quite a few female users atm… and people with more than 20 posts as well which most girls posters post neway…
i really do not think ANY language effects the female population of this forum sorry TG but i think that’s completely incorrect dude x hope you’re well
It probably boils down to everybody has a different sense of humor… That might even mean the same thing as peoples different perspectives i’m not sure.

Youre more than welcome to your view p0ly, and you may be right, and I may be totally off the mark.. andI dont thinks its necessarily the language, as you know I swear every other word in ‘real life’ but the tone maybe, and again this may be the way I read it, I dunno, maybe it is just my take on it
I cant think of a whole list of names, as I am just about to watch my mate on tv, but there was april/ quiet riot, sini, limixtra(?SP), limey, angel, Irie, acidfairy (who still occasionally posts) shortylia, to name a few I rememberand there were a fair few girls who would pop in but not necessarily saty, but maybe again this is my impression, if you say so
