  • OK since moving to Ipswich I’ve been on here as well – its a board run by progressive activist types, some of whom are ravers..

    http://www.easf.org.uk/forum/index.php

although its not massively high traffic it has good positive stuff on there but the forum is getting hammered by spambots etc.

they want to update the site (contains a wiki as well as this forum) but the main “expert” chap has left the area and although a new guy is taking over he is a bit worried about the size of the tasks..

And they definitely need to can those spammers or they will get rinsed.

I notice they use the same software as the old Kacchina board did (which I why I thought maybe James would know about this). are there better upgrades or will they need to migrate to vbulletin (assuming this can be done?)

I saw a thread somewhere yesterday about blocking spammers with phpbb. Let me find it…

Only just noticed this thread. Sorry for the delay 🙂

phpBB isnt the one anymore i reckon and it would be better in the long run to upgrade to vBulletin. But this costs money and requires a techie to convert the mySQL data to vBulletin’s. There are scripts available to do this.

I actually shut down the Kacchina board cause of all the spam bots ruining the site. As Hugh says though there is probably a mod for this although mods can be a pain as when u update the phpBB version you have to reinstall all the mods. 🙁

    Hope this helps. 🙂

thanks for this! Will pass on the info….
