Interesting first comment from a Tory MP (of all people!)
Mr. Bellingham: The Minister will be aware that there was a time when raves were generally low-key, good-humoured events. During the past few weeks, there have been a number of illegal raves in my constituency where there has been substantial criminal damage and violence, a great deal of damage to property and the peddling of illegal drugs. The local police are fully stretched and are doing their best, but does he agree that the time has come for records of raves to be centrally recorded? The Government should look again at the powers the police have. Will he consider the matter urgently?

This is the link to the debate from another Tory MP in Norfolk. He seems to be (unsuprisingly) unaware of the realities of this scene, assuming it is still like the old “acid house” days!

‘found needles’
ive never seen needles at a party or heroin being used. nor any other drugs that involve injections, so why are needles almost always ‘found’ at parties??!!
theyres a tunnel we used to go to and open a mates car up and listen to tunes, but one day a police car turned up saying locals had complained needles had been found the last time we’d been there! ended up in 3 of us getting cautions for possesion.
do the locals make this shit up or do the ppl involved with the council/site cleaners??
if people would take more care where they throw there rubbish this shit couldnt be made up after a party.

I wish I could say the needles thing is all bullshit but sadly it isn’t.
you’re quite young but you come across as you’re sensible and don’t hang around with really dodgy people or full on addicts…
but from the mid 20s to my sort of age group there are a lot more people who inject, and some of them do attend raves. Quite a few of my old high school friends went down that route, and when I lived in Reading I knew a lot of the squatters who were injectable drug users, and some of them started off as “ravers/party people” (Thats one reason I don’t really miss the place)
This thread was started by a girl who lives 20 minutes away from where I live now, and I heard at the “riot party” talk that others from that town had also been injecting ketamine.

Bear in mind injecting is the most efficient way of making use of a substance, and when people become addicted its easier to consider this.
Its still (thankfully) a taboo so people are very unlikely to pin up in front of you unless they know you and know you won’t be offended by it – and most people would do it in their vans or away from others.
Although most NHS trusts give free sharps bins with new needles I daresay some needles are indeed carelessly dropped around rave sites and any sort of remote but easily accessible site (it could have been used by drug users midweek). consider how much other trash is carelessly dropped anyway.
Of course one needle soon becomes a hundred when hostile locals and cops notice these things.
