  • Ive been in contact with brighton council, and lookin into liscences, apparently the Brighton Allience of Sound Systems already runs a fest, s o i’ll se what your sayin, other wise, general’s suggestions about not organising collectively might be safer

Just got a notification from you USE telling me that you had submitted a thread but there is nothing there.

    forget that, just seen it……….durrrRR

we have always made a large financial loss from our events, but a large gain in fun

same here. our last clubnight, even, we were down about £600. whoohoo. It was such a fucking good party, tho, everyone was banging on about it….thats why we do em…

commercial nightclubs aren’t really a financial success nowadays, I’ve just read on Sarf Lahndan Press that a formerly prestigious commercial nightclub in Croydon which got loads of people has closed down as it was unprofitable.

(LOL I never thought I’d write prestigious and Croydon in the same post 😀 😀 )

most of the profit is swallowed up by licensing costs, security costs, CCTV,breakages, staff pilferage etc – it only takes one bit of negative publicity like someone being stabbed or a girl getting her drink spiked to scare off a lot of punters (or worse still lead to a number of reprisal attacks in your venue)

You could put all the bouncers in London on the door and have half of Scotland Yard milling about outside and this shit would still happen – thats the way tings run in commercial clubs.

So making that financial loss doesn’t mean you’ve failed, and you’ve still had more fun and created a safer atmosphere than the commercial types.

TBH If commercial clubs are going down in a sea of blood , glass and spent cartridge cases I wouldn’t shed any tears; hopefully all the aggressive scum will eliminate each other leaving the field clear for the more concious party people…

Yea we made a loss in the club because we booked three acts for £500, £350 & £100, and it was a wednesday night. one of them was dj freaky flow, and while he was propersick (he dropped “every little thing she does is magic” by sting into his DnB, and noone left the dancefloor…such a slick mix.

he may have been wicked, and addd to the party, but he didn’t bring anyone in because he’s famous in Canada, not here. still, the attitude thats we only book people if theyre famous is proper binjuice. There just has to be a middle ground. Plus the night was a sunday, which is always hard to fill, unless its linked to a saturday and billed as an afterparty type deal.

When we did charity nights we got loads of moolah, but gave it all away- plus we didnt have to pay anyone, which makes a diff.

I really would like to get cash out of the clubnights, coz it will keep our rig alive, lots of people are up to their eyes in debt and cant get any more…and we still dont have a van of our own.

in theory, shouldnt be too hard: 400 capacity x 5 = 2000. 280 for the club, 900 on acts, should be 820 profit. its filling the club thats a bastard, and once you hire places on a friday, your looking at 500+ for the venue alone!

having said all that corporate shite, filling the club is shit, coz theres no room to dance!

im all confused – should i just get a shit job and do parties as a hobby? i dont wanna, but i dont wanna sacrifice the flavour of the parties either……aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh

mayhem (or mouse?) from hastings just put a club night on the calendar which is advertised as a PV fundraiser!

does anyone know what’s happening with mayhem/mouses event? its getting quite near the date as well….

INDYMEDIA benfit was fine not too put too fine a point on it cause we done the rig,1000+ people passed through..
    I ‘m interested

i’ve got a meeting with B.A.S.S. on wednesday, and was thinking about suggesting a partyvibe stage…its in brighton o the 5th of Sept. who say yea?

otoh, blatantly want to do summat more immediate…but a bit stuck on what exactly…anyone got funds to chip in to hire a massive club in Reading, Bristol or Brighton (etc) and do a stomper?

i miss the thekla, it was cheap and easy to fill…booooo!

wish the Native Beats luck this wednesday, if we dont fill the club, we’re fucked!
