  • these days if its a good rave with friendly people, decent drugs and no beef it wouldn’t matter if they fucking played hard trance TBH…

Fuck the Psy forum then, miserable bastards:laugh_at:

Hardly. Most of them just know what a good psytrance party is, and this Halcyon event certainly wasn’t that. 😛

Fair enough if you enjoyed it, but the lack of decor, the supposedly shit sound system, the really tight security, the expensive on-the-door tickets, the overcrowdedness, the VJ projecting no smoking signs… really doesn’t sound like it was particularly good party, certainly not representative of what psytrance parties are really like!

tight security, expensive tickets and it was busy? In London? SHOCKING!

I’ve been to plenty of legal psytrance parties with pretty relaxed security. The orgs could have found a bigger venue re: overcrowdedness, but I guess this was to be expected seeing as Astrix and Hallucinogen were playing.

I dunno, I just have high standards for psy parties as they are different from typical raves. It’s all about the proper underground psytrance scene in London: ultra immersive decor, Opus & Funktion 1 sound systems, amazingly friendly crowd, security who are there to protect and not to confiscate, ridiculously good drugs and very psychedelic music. 😉

Edit: Apologies for being a kill joy moaner. I don’t want to detract from the fun you all had, ‘cos that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day…

very ggod for finding out info etc, but I didnt find em half as welcoming as here – but it was a good few years ago so that might have changed

glad to hear you guys had a good un – I’m so sad I couldnt have joined in – :group_hug

Projecting no smoking signs, OH NO the smoking area was only massive and nearby. The Psy forum sounds like whiney gits. i could go on.

I didn’t even go :weee: I find psy at the duller end of the repetitive beats spectrum.

Its important not to take it too seriously, at the end of the day its some bloke putting on other peoples records to an audience so spangled on drugs they are far more interested in the flying pony.

TRANSLATION: I MISS TAKING DRUGS AND DANCING TO STUFF *sulks*

I did consider it but would rather put £40 towards bike parts than making National Express bosses pockets bigger – thats before even counting other expenses so its looking like nearly £100 just for a weekend out, tend not to want to spend that sort of money these days just for hedonism – got stuff like mortgage to pay and also would rather have something to show for it other than feeling shit and sluggish at work until Wednesday..

I have used psy-forum before but when I tried to start a discussion about the wider political and ethical implications of rich Europeans using Asian nations as a playground for psy-trance raves, thus increasing corruption and organised crime everyone suddenly went silent… 😉

I too tend to prefer psy in smaller doses..

That said, I’d find it hard to blame the promoters totally for stuff like harsh security and smoking bans being enforced, especially in London. When some local crews were doing legal events the Council deliberately made them select a unrelated security firm with older people who enforce zero tolerance on drugs and work with the OB, I think its a licensing condition these days…

Hey hey 🙂 I think the thing with Psy Forum is that a lot of the people on there know each other in real life, so it can be quite hard for new people to relate to what they’re saying. I joined in 2007 and didn’t start posting properly until 2008, when I partied more regularly and met more members.

That said, there was a post a while back regarding this, and now more considerations are made in making new posters feel welcome. 🙂

It just ain’t conducive to a nice tripping environment IMO. If I was a VJ, I’d be pissed off if the venue wanted me to project non-smoking signs. 😛

    LOL 😛

I’d disagree tho, most of the people I know at psy parties are heavily into the music and more interested in the acts playing than the drugs (tho, as we all know, drugs do a good job aiding the experience and helping with stamina for parties that last an average of 18 hours 😀 ). Without wanting to sound pretentious or ‘owt, psy parties put a lot more consideration into the overall experience, unlike techno parties and the like which tend to have more DJs (as opposed to live acts), no decor, etc.

I hear what you’re saying, and I was in no way blaming the promoters on something like the smoking ban. It’s just I’ve been to club nights before where the security haven’t been bad at all. I’m just confused as to why anybody would want to hold an event in a licensed warehouse. Baffles me! Worst of both words IMO. :p …and charging £25 or whatever it was on the door, that really takes the piss.

Halcyon have fucked up here, as they clearly haven’t put the effort in compared to other psytrance party organisers in London.

its a complete lottery, depends on the attitude of the local Council and also how many alcohol and drug-related incidents have occured in all night time venues in that area… including townie shitholes.. in many areas the cops and NHS work together to count the incidents and this shapes enforcement of drug policies – and as the Ambulance Service region or the hospital PCT is often a way bigger area than the Councils area zero tolerance policies can get implemented due to incidents many miles away…

of course in London there are loads of different Councils unlike somewhere like Suffolk where there are only about five…

10 pound ticket if you bought early…. 25 quid is MINOR cash IMO anyway.

WELCOME TO PARTY VIBE TANK GIRL

Ahh, OK, thanks for clarifying, dude. Didn’t know things were that tight. :s

Aye, and that’s cool (the early bird ticket thing). £25 really isn’t minor cash for on-the-door entry though, esp. for most people. I mean, it’s a bit of a scam when you take into consideration that a tenner will get you an international lineup, lots of decor, top quality sound systems, VJs who actually project psychedelic shit to look at, and a party that will last in excess of 12 hours, when it comes to most psytrance parties in London.

Could not have said it better myself ,

See my earlier post in this thread, The fact that is was run by Halcyon (has the guy who runs this ever been to a pschedelic party?) was a major factor in me not going to this, esp when you consider what is done by crews week in week out in London with exceptionally high standard of producion and tunes done on 1/4 of the budget.

Still, pissed that i didnt get to meet those of you who went. I wanted to get mashed up with you lot badly , stupid work 😥

How long did Hallucinogen play for was it live or a dj set?

Me and the Fungineer will keep our eyes peeled for something special ,for next time 😉
