might be the case for the Americans but for Europeans (and some other folk worldwide) its not incompatible to believe in both.

TBH both Catholic and “New Age” (in fact ancent Germainc pagan) afterlifes depict Heaven as a similar place to Northern Europe but elsewhere in the universe; and full of trees/plants/animals – so you’d have to look after the environment in Heaven as well as in Earth (I expect there would be guitar playing hippie vegan types at ranger stations about every 150m throughout the woods; even the Bear would use the WC provided rather than risk Angst and Shame)..

from the blog/website of a nun in Texas – the sisters would most likely never end up using this ashtray for its intended purpose; so it would end up on what the Dutch Catholics call a “kijktafel” (a table of pretty stuff with a religious theme to look at) along with Bible verses and suggestions of healthier activities (although I expect the sisters would just go outside or hide in the WC and smoke anyway).

Maybe they could make something similar for catholic priests but instead of making them not smoke it could get the to stop knobbing kiddies.

to be fair modern parishes across Europe and even some more enlightened bits of USA do actually have good safeguarding procedures; (there have been some good honest articles about this on Catholic websites across Europe) – some USA parishes now invite the priest to go to theme parks etc along with families and kids especially around Christmas and other festive times so he doesn’t end up isolated from the rest of the people.

If you look on the website of any Catholic church round here the first things you see are Mass and Confession times; followed by contact details for Safeguarding (although thats also present on nearly all community groups these days)

Yeah I know GL :). There are sick people in every profession an walk of life, Catholics are just an easy target I suppose.

I think this is a fucking epic photo, not too sure of when it was taken (clearly 1929+), nor where about in the sea….or which one. But I think it says a lot about the power of the sea and the level of determination humans will go to to fuck each other about.

The former German submarine UB 148 at sea, after having been surrendered to the Allies. UB-148, a small coastal submarine, was laid down during the winter of 1917 and 1918 at Bremen, Germany, but never commissioned in the Imperial German Navy. She was completing preparations for commissioning when the armistice of November 11 ended hostilities. On November 26, UB-148 was surrendered to the British at Harwich, England. Later, when the United States Navy expressed an interest in acquiring several former U-boats to use in conjunction with a Victory Bond drive, UB-148 was one of the six boats allocated for that purpose. they want to start using Office365/Azure at work (which is to be fair a slight improvement on the NT-servers but has the usual Microsoft quirks. One of these is Lync (their VOIP/IM) is now rebranded Skype for business but a totally different app from the personal Skype and has to have the DNS for your companies domain configured in a particular way before it works (this can get complicated!)

As the new “skype” client only offers US English (unlike the other MS software) I set mine to Dutch 😉
