There have been various reports and photos of “giant rats” across the UK and elsewhere – although little evidence that these are anything other than Norway Rats (Rattus Norvegicus) – although larger rat species are found elsewhere in the world (particularly Africa and Asia) they prefer warmer climates and less densely populated areas. The spectacular photos are a product of camera settings commonly found on many Japanese compact cameras and smartphones (see below).
Although it is no longer PC to use cigarette packets to illustrate the size of objects; these are a fairly constant dimension the world over, and everyone on here is supposed to be over 18. BTW they are legit; my sister brought them over for me when she visited for my birthday weekend (she had been in DE for work).
The rubber rat (of the sort sold around Halloween) is quite small TBH; it would be about the same size as a small specimen of the Black/Roof rat (Rattus Rattus) although this species now uncommon in Northern Europe, difficult to keep as a pet (it is often ill-behaved in comparison to a Norway Rat) and if I had obtained a real rat and managed to encourage it to remain still for the photo I’d likely get visited by cops and animal welfare authorities for smoking in the same building…
