normal for America since 1940s onwards. Consider why the “Negersoldaten” from USA would reclaim “Das Funkerlied” (Luftwaffe intelligence corp radio operator marching song from Nazi) for themselves. I doubt they would sing a Nazi era song in German in America post war as it would be viewed as terrorism; so clearly for whatever reason they would have chosen to remain in the Germany.
It was well into 1970s safer for a black American to live in Germany than USA. But they would have needed some job there, and might still have been in the military, that they chose this for their marching song might hint it had something to do with sigint Organisations like NSA, GCHq, BND , Ofcom, Agentschap Telecom etc are way more ethnically diverse than folk think but the black/brown skinned people tend to get the frontline jobs where they often have to spy on their own kind or others who would otherwise be their friends… (the choice of the song may have also been a bit of dark humour).
