I don’t think he would make up the incident though might be mistaken over the nationality of the fighters.
My room might currently look like a cold war listening post (but with better and modern equipment), but I monitor things without prejudice – IMO everyone is welcome to sail on the North Sea especially as the brave mariners bring us cool stuff, provided they don’t crash into each other or spill oil and other foul chemicals into the water.
However, when I listen on VHF to ships channels, I cannot tell the Russians, Polish or Ukranians apart (especially as I do not understand their languages) – and the crew of a ship are not necessarily all from its flag country.
What I can easily work out is whether someone is from Eastern Europe, or Asian, or English, or Irish, Dutch or French/Spanish. It is of course not surprising I have better accuracy on identifying a nationality when they speak a language I happen to know as well. LA comes across as an intelligent chap who I expect speaks more than one language and is himself from Europe so less likely to be prejudiced in any form.
Its indeed true psy parties are way more peaceful than big London or SE England multiriggers – and also Norfolk parties were more peaceful, but there is still a lot of money to be made from drugs sales at them and that is deemed worth fighting over – also people still fight over girls and private disputes at parties all over the world. Even in the “safe” Netherlands loads of their large events have been blighted by violence, I only know about these as my Dutch has improved over the years.
