Interesting question.
I’m most definitely one of the older ones in the party scene here. Those that know us will be aware that ITSy BITSy is a bit of an oddity in many ways, not least because we’re a family run rig. Most of the crew that has built up around us are much younger than me. I certainly see plenty of younger people coming into the scene and there is already one “spin-off” rig from some people in our crew with some of their mates – Illicit Sounds.
It seems to me to be a continually eveolving thing. Some people will leave the scene through family or work commitments, boredom or the stress of running a rig. Others like myself with a background in free festivals may come back into it as their proirities change. I can think of a few newish rigs around over the last year or so. Some with older members some exclusively young. Other more established rigs have had old members leave and new ones join.
It’s also easy to forget that although many of us are in contact with a good few rigs through some established websites there are still plenty of systems out there that don’t appear on those forums.

Hi KC! Good to meet you at the weekend again and to see you on here.
I do think a lot of how the scene evolves is dependent on how much support those in it get from each other – particularly when things get a bit rough.
TBH I don’t think that people are not wanting to get involved but for a lot of them the stakes in life have been raised a lot higher…
seems like all the teens today are expected to do shitloads of exams, go to Uni, get a first and still end up on giro because the jobs they would have had have been outsourced.. a lot of people nowadays either don’t want to take the risks with raving (or even clubbing) anymore or go totally overboard and end up doing real crime and destructive stuff rather than raves..
Many people (not just teens) often do not have much support from family members if they get involved in raving and experience extreme criticism of their lifestyles – particularly when they end up having dealings with the criminal justice system! You need only read the threads on SJ or even stuff in the mainstream media to see the level of conflict that exists in some families over their lifestyles.
I hope your family realise what a supportive father they have ; TBH if all dads (and mums!) were like you I wouldn’t be writing this thread – or for that matter we wouldn’t need to discuss so much stuff about cops and other hassles – every rave would be like the ambient picnic and the bobbies would no longer need to bother us!
Ha ha ha! No young’uns at Free Parties- you ain’t been to Brains Kan!!!!!!
But seriously, I’m 20 and have been partying for a good few years, my immediate party cru consists of both older ravers (25+) and younger ones.
The east anglian scene is IMO still going from strength to strength. The community parties pull in the largest crowds around, and have a lot of younger ravers. It’s quite impressive to see the amount of people, esp as its always one stack (tho many systems.) You have to remember that they barely advertisd on the net, so its easy not to notice tham.
However, the “Ahem” ‘older’ systems still hold phat parties, just not as regularly.
IMO the reason for the divide is that the community systems play a lot of old/ skool, hardcore form the early 90’s. Now, a lot of people scoff at this and take the piss, but thats because they got to experience it THE FIRST TIME AROUND! To us its all new, and the energy and atmosphere is electric, so they pull a bigger crowd.
In point of fact, I appear to be a rare species, both in my home town, and at uni. Most people do not go partying, for many different reasons; don’t do drugs, don’t like the music, far too much effort!
But the people I have taken along have loved it!
Far too much apathey in my generation generally. Shame really.
Same here.. either its coz binge is well wise beyond his years…
….or its coz of the “senior member” next twis name.
probably both.
defo need to get to East Anglia next summer 😀 – from what I have read on here and even on SJ it does seem to have
There is no reason whatsoever for the older people to scoff at “old-skool” – whilst for some (myself included) the memories may be bitter-sweet (particularly if you have been through a bad stage of “overdoing things”, or friendships/relationships from those days have broken down due to the adverse aspects of drug use) it is still after all what brought everyone together in the first place 🙂
I don’t think people scoff at Old Skool rigs round East Anglia. Certainly nobody that I know anyway.
I mean in person too though. Me and mr bingeoid have met on several occasions.

You know you’d be more than welcome!
Maybe pop up when native beats come join in too.
I’m well wise, me!
Damn right, open invite to all y’ll to come party Anglian style! Would be great to get Native Beats up here!
*Binge remembers a 10 system party in the forest with a tear in his eye!*
LOL – wonder who it is who realised that on the new software you can now see everyones votes (it is not a secret ballot!) and logged out before answering the poll 😀
If its who I think it is I’d always thought you were younger than that anyway…
theres some bloke mattt on sj that did a wicked spongy, bouncy DnB mix on squatjuice radio the other day, he’s an east anglian, and has heard of the biotech rig but not seen it…seems pretty safe, and his crew are well up for a summerslammer, whould be blinding. the natives are well prepared for a hectic summer….
Binge only 20?????????? WTF??????? Don’t believe it for a second 😀
Tis true what is said about the East of Anglia though, there is very much a younger crowd. And yes there is a lot of “Old Skool” being played but there is also a lot of new stuff coming thru to. A couple of the most recent rigs to appear in this area have an average age of about 18-23 and there are a lot of younger ones wanting to start a “party” of their own.
So I suppose that what you have noticed, General, is maybe just a local paradox, who knows? From what I have read thus far we have only covered the South East of the country would be intresting to see what those “oop” North have to say. From what I understand, the West Country doesn’t have “parties” as such because of zero tolerance and Wales have only just started to rise from the ashes.
And when the summer does get here, you would be well advised to make a trip out East it is an experience and it’s not as flat as you think 😀
TEST!TEST!TEST!
i wish people wouldn’t confoose Bristol with ‘the Westcountry’.
we, the westcountry, are cornwall and devon, sometimes somerset, sometimes dorset. although everyone in somerset smells (why we don’t get out of devon much) and dorset is too close to london (dragons lie this way)
westcountry parties are fine
Bristol has a real problem with harsh OB and their joy at batonning people 🙁 which it stupid cos smack and crack are a fraction of the price of in exeter, plymouth, st austell etc…
mind you, if i was a copper i’d find it much easier to earn my crust smacking up party kids rather than tackling hardcore smack dealers.
easier; not right
