I’m starting to feel the same way, although I’m a girl and I’m 29. But most my friends my age have kids, and most friends i go to parties with are younger than me, i think i get away with it since no one thinks I’m older than 20-21. But then again when i get even older i don’t want to stop just because other people think i should. So I’ll just keep doing what i want, not getting kids and settling down, i still have lots to do in my life!
yep round here most girls drop out of the scene by their 20s or even their late teens because they either want or have got kids .
I’m curious though, is it different across the North Sea? I have this perhaps sterotypical image of girls/women in nations like NL, SE and DK being a lot more independent and clued up and less conforming to traditional gender roles than in England…

Well i lived in Amsterdam in Holland, and i think it can’t be compared to the rest of the country really. I do think there are probably older women still squatting and partying but most my friends were younger, and also all from different countries. In Amsterdam you meet people who like to party. 🙂
In Sweden i think it’s a bit of both, i come from a small town and yes… all my friends there but one has kids. :S But also they are happy living a small town life. My friends in Stockholm or Gothenburg are mostly without kids still. 😀
Ah… and two days ago one of my favourite hippie friends told me she’s pregnant, i’m very happy for her but there will be no more parties now.
Whaaa! I’m losing them…. 😉

a couple of the blokes I know of my age group recently became fathers and you don’t see them partying any more or if they do its rare as they have to sort out childcare (being men with progressive views they don’t expect their wives/partners to look after the baby whilst they party)
I don’t mind kids but in an overpopulated world with a uncertain future have no desire whatsoever to bring one into this world (plus they are expensive and high maintenance)

I think some of it might just be a local backlash against the stupid things what happened here from 2005-07 leading to zero tolerance and all the “sensible” folk not partying any more or a division between them and “k-heads”
I think that’s the case for me. I feel completely detached from it all now. I definitely do miss it but the culture, the reasons behind it and the people involved in it (the majority of them anyway) seem totally different to what I used to enjoy.
I’m constantly doubting myself and thinking that it’s just me getting older and naturally becoming more detached from youth culture – and maybe that is the case because I’m not in to the arrogance, selfishness, one upmanship and ego massaging that seems to be at the core of many partries these days.
That’s not to say I think everyone is like that. There are some totally sound younger ravers on here like Boothy (forgotten what you call yourself these days mate 🙂 ) and Josh and others that I’ve met outside of this site.
As for whether you should avoid hanging around with younger crowds – I think Daft is right and you shouldn’t give a shit what people think. I knew a lot of older party heads when I was younger, in fact the free party scene in EA used to be largely made up of older party goers and teenagers (like we were) were less common. However, it’s inevitable that someone out there is going to think you are over the hill and shouldn’t be going partying, or even those that will think something more sinister is at play. That’s just something you will have to accept I’m afraid, but I don’t think that should stop you.
Oh and I’d also like to add that if I didn’t know you I’d guess you were about 20-25. So you certainly don’t look out of place around that age group.

Actually a lot of my younger mates too (age 20+) are dropping out for the same reasons, which is probably whats giving me my misgivings. All of us have noticed the atmosphere isn’t as fun as what it used to be at both legal and free events…
