Lets hope this stupid law doesn’t come into action.
This Government is really starting to take the piss now!!:you_crazy :you_crazy

That law already is in force – its a petition to have it amended…

The law in question is the one that gives you the TENS [temporary event notifications]

yes, its been posted a couple of times

some people signed it – others just said they didn’t see a problem with the new rules and implied that venues should simply have checked their license applications more carefully at the outset and if they wanted live music just paid more money for the full license which allows you to do everything.. .. :you_crazy

i tried to publisize this loads, get as many signatures. but responses were very skeptical and negative.

“oh yeah, cos i make my money from playin bars all around the uk” for an example of a sarcastic response.

the fuckin pathetic thing was that these responses were from people i know through certain musical communities, and if they had any common sense should be signing it immediately. do they not realise that oasis, the stones roses, rolling stones (and those are only the ones i know for a fact) made their name by playing local pubs and bars, built up a reputation and eventually got a record deal?

i would guess a huge majority of uk bands started off like this. but from what i have gathered musicians and those involved in the communities i have contacted are the ones being extremely skeptikal about it. fuckin let-downs to be honest.

    that’s pretty depressing boothy

regardless of whether people become famous for it or make any money or not, there shouldn’t be a ban on someone playing a few records or tunes on a guitar, because a country like that will be shit

TBH I suspect a lot of them secretly support the laws as it potentially reduces competition..

Isn’t this the way of the UK though?

when I worked for the Civil Service I learned that most complaints to “nanny state regulators” actually came from business rivals attempting to use the regulations to gain a competitive advantage (often the same people and companies who claim to abhor such regulatory interference)

yeah unfortunately, altho there is a bit of positive news. i posted on a couple of forums and since last night there has been around 450 new signatures, i dunno if this is the usual pace but it ain’t bad going.

also i think it might actually make a difference if this petition gets bigger, anyone hear it on the news where the government issued a statement about the road tax online petition and appear to be rethinking? its a long-shot but hopefull it’ll work.

I dunno mate, these are small-time musicians and fans of local music mostly, I can’t see them being supportive (even secretly so) of this bullshit. I mean it’s their steppin-stone effectively…

at the same time though if people have climbed or are climbing the ladder many try to pull it up or break the bottom rungs to keep their place higher up…

if people actually had solidarity the CJA would have had a lot more opposition in 1994 than it actually got – what happened is that the scene split between legal and free party peopel (it is still balkanised to an extent) a number of commercial promoters (but not all) who already had got the “superclubs” with late licenses supported the CJA and kowtowed to licensing rules (putting up ticket prices in the process) as it potentially reduced competion from the free party scene, at least for a few years (it did succeed in knocking back free raves until 1997 or so).

Now the govt use CJA powers to close licensed clubs.

I suspect the government already expected a level of oppostion and the real reason they are rethinking is due to the cost and technology issues of implementing the scheme rather than public opinion.

hmm, i gotta lot to learn. an over-opionated 16 year old, haha better than havin no opinion i suppose! :bounce_fl
