the undeclared civil war of nimbys vs chavs vs cops has taken its toll in collateral damage on the streets of Reading with many late night venues getting closed / restricted / nannied by bouncers….
but one place has bounced back – the Boxing Club in Chatham street, the first (and only?) underground venue in Reading to get a 6am license (apart from the short-lived raves at Rivermead; wrecked by London gang violence)
Boxing Club is back with decent crews, friendly but firm security and a wide range of events…
expect events from
KSS
Void
Kraked TV
and others
hopefully its gonna be like old times again but even better
all it needs now is a sound crowd of ravers and its success depends on you the raver as well – like it or not the cops and nimbys are gonna be watching closely so ppl have got to behave reasonably if this place is gonna keep its late licence..
if you go to one of the events here try and respect the surroundngs when you arrive or leave, and leave your beef at home – if you wanna fight, go there during the week and sign up for the venues “normal” daytime use instead of bringing it on top for raves..
that way we can rave again in the city..
that’s wicked news
but does it smell of sweatyness?
Does it smell of sweatyness… LOL….VERY!! not B.O though.
Anyways, thats ok then. I remeber many nights at the Boxing Club and being the last person to go home. Oh how I wish I was living in Reading again. perhaps not after thinking about it.
G.L it would be cool to have one of our chats again mate. I aint seen you in ages. And of course it would be good to see the old croud too.
Give me a PM when you see/hear something

boxing club eh…i went there once during my stint in reading, that was the hottest place i’ve ever been, could only hack 5mins before going out to get air!! they gave away free whistles though ;-D….that was also the first and last time i did pure caffiene :crazy_fre
Best news I have heard for ages, I loved the boxing club while it lasted….
I’ll see you there, for whatever the first event is….
The Boxing Club may be back in business, but it will be without events promoted by Fushion
We have been there and done that for a couple of years, a couple of years ago, and have moved on…
Nov 5th sees the first of our new “Awakening” nights at Plug n Play, 35 Milford Rd, Reading….(see seperate thread in UK Parties section)
Hope to see some of you all there…
The venue (Plug n Play) is not sweaty, overheated, overcrowded or uncomfortable…There is space to sit and chat as well as dance.

I have edited my original post to clarify this… I had originally been told that Fushion may also be contributing kit to events at the Boxing club although I also saw the Plug and Play nights…
TBH I think its a bit premature to worry about the new Boxing Club becoming too packed or uncomfortable (I would hope promoters learn from their mistakes, and if they do not I am sure it will be discussed here…)
As far as this board in concerned and the city I live in I remain impartial as far as which events or venues will be “best”, particularly as I know pretty much everyone involved in putting on there events!
IMO the priority here is working together to keep the underground scene alive in Reading – and to provide as much positive urban music as possible to those who wish to hear it… we so need something more positive than grime, crime and binge-drinking in the city..
Absoloutly, GL….no offence intended, btw…
I was just stating, for the record, that Fushion will not be promoting any nights at the Boxing club in the near future, at least.
However, if any promoter wants to hire a superb soundsystem for very little money (together with a top quality engineer…me, lol) then I am more than willing to purchase enough earplugs so I don’t need to listen to Dickie moaning 😉
Oh, and I’m not sure you’ll see Kraked, either, cos I seem to recall that they are stopping promoting under that name…
Good to see another possible venue available. Like a few other rigs we know ITSy BITSy are looking for ways to keep doing what we do without running into some of the licensing issues we’re had.
We’re continuing our work with CoG (Coalition of Guildford) who put on the Ambient Picnic in trying to get more events running over there. CoG is a loose collective of promoters, soundsystems, artists and musicians who work together to put on events and gain as much assistance as possible from the local council. Finding suitable venues is a major problem there as it is in many provincial towns.
Julz, hope your night went well. Was hoping to get over for a while but the BIT mobile was off the road and I couldn’t blag anyone to take me there. I’ll try for the next one.
Wowsers!
It finally looks as though Reading Council is backing the all night dance parties once more. I had heard a rumour of the Boxing Club going all night, and now I see Julz has secured 6am license for plug and play.
Congrats to all involved – I know it is down to the promoters as much, if not more than the club owners – it takes good events with no trouble to get the backing of the powers that be.
It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling, having pioneered the 6am show at the boxing club and lost that in 2000. Fair play to all for sticking at it with the previously restrictive hours.
BIG UP the ALL NIGHT RAVERS – legal or illegal.
Hope to see some of you out and about over nu year…

TBH I don’t think its really a case of the Council or TVP “backing the events” – merely the law has changed so that provided that they cannot think up any serious objections that would stand up to challenge in Court there is a de facto granting of the late license…
But any granting of late licenses definitely is due to the previous work that Dan has done and people like Julz and others hosting events that create far less of a burden on the public services (such as cops/Berks Ambulance dealing with major casualties) than the “vertical drinking” venues elsewhere in the city (which usually end up with “horizontal casualties”!)
Its still up to ravers to behave sensibly at Reading events and not bring things on top; theres also a danger TVP may “crash the party” with sniffer dogs if they suspect dealing or major drug use (they are now regularly going through all Thames Valley entertainment areas with these hounds), The Central Club was raided midweek for drugs, although it does strike me as rather daft to deal from a council-funded venue; someone is bound to grass these people up!
OTOH cops and the rest of society simply have to accept there is a demand for urban music events, and that by and large (and given the right music genre and community of people) they are far less problematic than many other activities people take part in at the weekend!
It’s good to see 6am back on flyers. The lack of late licences was killing the scene in Reading. Now that events can go on pretty much all night I think people will return (myself included) to the sweat boxes of Reading 😀
Let’s hope to old bill don’t get too proactive in their search for drugs?!?
So is anyone going to D-FRAG tonight?
Good 2 see there’s still the potential for some bad-ass nights in Reading. Nice and close for me
that way we can rave again in the city..
don’t beleave the councils lies, its still just a town no matter how many times they call it a city.
