As far as outright rejecting God…..that is your choice.
sorry but I just dont believe in this, never will, and indeed it is my choice
however growing up with this sort of ‘bad press’ for the cathoilc chruch (and I could go on about other demominations but I cant be arsed)
they’ve not really done themselves any favours in the UK, have they, now I’m not saying all priests were / are IRA connected, paedophiles or the like but it just comes across to me as the wrong people being in a position of power and then preaching to us / telling us to live a certain way and judgeing us – when they cant even keep their own ‘house’ in order… – double standards yet again and makes me sceptical
Well, don’t say ‘never’….I at one time said I will NEVER stick a needle in my arm…..but in the end, we’ll find out won’t we? I seriously mean that – what if it doesn’t matter what you BELIEVE…. we will both find out what’s up someday. I just choose the Christian way.
And the church I attend isn’t organized in that the pastors don’t necessarily have to dress in robes or even have formal training….no ‘priests’…..it IS sad that there are the baddies tho’
Sorry I didn’t clarify…..the last bit was directed at noname…..
Then his nature is vindictive. He is saying that if we don’t believe in him we have to be punished…
Along with the bigoted idea that because we are human we must have sinned, and therefore need to repent (leaving aside the fact that I don’t believe I’m sinful, there are certainly souls that have died as children that I have great issue with the idea of them being sinful… A baby who has gone to this idea of judgement you have is guilty of nothing, and has no need to repent anything – the idea that they have is ludicrous…)
So I reiterate – if he does exist, and is the way you think he is, then I want no part of him and never will….
its the same with any ‘job’ where you are in a position of power-
it often attracts the wrong people due to the power ‘buzz’ and they often have power over the vulnerable / people who have lost their own voice
(the police. prison guards, security to name a few)
– and as with the rave scene – the few ‘bad apples’ – it ends up giving the whole thing a bad name
I am not saying all religions are necessarily wrong or dont have personal benefiits for people who do believe etc,
its just the double standards, attempts at controll and judgement etc I wont accept
No – His nature is holy. Totally without sin.
And it doesn’t matter if you don’t SEE yourself as sinful….I take it you do not believe in the Ten Commandments. Without the Law, no one would recognize sin for what it is.
Children ARE innocent….God would NEVER condemn them!
And again, God will not force Himself on anyone – He wants those who are WILLING…. so He will grant you your wish – eternity without Him. As to whether that will be pleasant or not…..we will all find out what’s up when we die.
TG, I totally agree with you on that last point. It is NOT for US to judge…..that is God’s job. And those who abuse power, esp. in the church, WILL be punished!
And it doesn’t matter if you don’t SEE yourself as sinful….I take it you do not believe in the Ten Commandments. Without the Law, no one would recognize sin for what it is.
I disagree totally – I think people are perfectly capable of working out the difference between good and bad, and I think that someone who needs a book, or a set of laws to tell them the difference is morally very weak…
I do rather enjoy the one that goes “thou shalt not covet thy neighbours ass” though… Cue Finbarr Saunders :laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:
And again, God will not force Himself on anyone – He wants those who are WILLING…. so He will grant you your wish – eternity without Him. As to whether that will be pleasant or not…..we will all find out what’s up when we die.
So you don’t believe in the biblical idea of “original sin” then?
And it doesn’t say that he will grant eternity without him to those who don’t want him, it says they will be consigned to hell (if we reject him then we will be judged)…
Or are we cherry picking the bible, and using that ever so wonderful phrase I’ve heard many fundamentalists come out with “What I think god meant to say is……”
Well you said it…if you don’t go by the Ten Commandments then in your opinion it’s not sin.
We are all born with a sin nature…but innocent children who have not done anything wrong would not be condemned.
And hell IS eternity without God!!!!
amy, you say IM taking things out of context (LOL LOL LOL) plz you said you could explain EVERY one of these bible quotes to me??? go on then……
(Jesus Speaking) If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he can not be my disciple. (Luke 14:26 NAB)
Jesus did NOT mean to literally HATE your parents…..but rather to love Him to such an extent that the love you feel for everyone else will SEEM like hate in comparison. In other words, would you be willing to just drop everything like the disciples did to follow Him?
(Jesus speaking) “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword. For I have come to set a man ‘against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s enemies will be those of his household'”. (Matthew 10:34-36 NAB)
This is when it comes right down to it, who do you love more? Again, it does NOT mean HATE ANYONE.
But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye – even if it is your good eye – causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand – even if it is your stronger hand – causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. (Matthew 5:28-30 NLT)
Not literally saying poke out your eyes, cut off parts of your body. He is saying that BODY PARTS don’t MAKE you sin, any more than ‘the devil made me do it’….that’s an excuse. These things can be tamed by an act of WILL.
you honestly cannot explain these bible quotes without sounding stupid.
in YOUR opinion……
Sign me up. :crazy_dru
We are all born with a sin nature…but innocent children who have not done anything wrong would not be condemned.
And hell IS eternity without God!!!!
But I have a very good sense of what is right and what is wrong – like I said, I don’t need a set of commandments to tell me that… I find it worrying that other people need the threat of going to hell etc to stop them from doing bad things. Some of us don’t do bad things because they are bad – no threat required….
And why on earth would god (who is all seeing, all knowing) design people so that they are born with a sinful nature, give them free will and then condemn them to torment when they follow that nature…. Sounds like a piss take to me…
and I think you have too many letters in the penultimate word of your final statement – if your god is everything you believe he is, then hell is eternity WITH god…
totally agree mate
Well that ‘sense of right and wrong’ was given to us by our Creator. But there ARE some who do not realize that some things are bad!
The original sin issue is a bit tricky…no easy answers there. Some things you just take on faith and will have to ask God!
Um….actually eternity without ANY hope, dark, painful in some way, whether it be fire or whatever……that’s pretty hellish. Again, we shall see someday.
Actually our ‘Creator’ was a group of aliens from Mars. They created us and keep coming back to check up on us. I was abducted once and gang probed so i know what i’m on about. :alien_abd
