Oddly enough, there was a religious movement known as “ranting” back in the days of the English Civil War. A person was a ranter who basically denoucned everything evil (from their point of view) and promised a New Jerusalem if only people would just go along with being a good Puritan.

Nowadays we call such people “Conservatives”, rather than “Ranters”. 🙂

OK, that’s a bit harsh, perhaps we should just catergorise all politicians as “ranters”. At least the idea of banning Christmas and indeed fun of any kind has slipped away as a silly idea.

I’ve not read any of this thread

    I am I guess spiritual,

but my main thing I recon is mother nature, megalithic rocks, chalice well, Glastonbury etc

but I’m sure this is coz this is what I’ve been brought up with ( as many of you know……majik water and Avalon) so its my second nature

FFS sake I LOVE mike Oldfield, osibisa, and jean michelle jarre…..

    of course I’m indoctrinated

but I do however hold on to my own opinions and I disagree with injustice and prejudice

hence despite being a woman who likes fucking men I really do not understand the problem people have with same sex relationships. a want for equality (whether it be before a church I disagree with or not) 50 yr ago the same argument was eing had against black and white union, this world changes thanfully

I dont understand the fight for same sex relationships, because thats not really equality in my eyes, when it comes down to sex you dont go round shouting out about how many people youve slept with our who/how many you had round your house last night, so why would they do the same for same sex relationships.

relationships are personal in all forms and dont need to be a publicly addressed issue for you to do what you like, although i am a hyprocrite when it comes to same sex gender SEX. male on male no way, but females, be my guest :p haha, huge turn on

That really is incredibly hypocrytical. So it’s OK for two women to be attracted to each other as it turns you on (they’re not doing it for men’s sake, quite the opposite) but two men who are attracted to each other is wrong?

Equality is everyone being treated EQUALLY, irrespective of race, religion, sexual preference or sex. Everyone deserves the same rights.

I don’t get what’s so difficult to understand. Same-sex couples want the same rights as heterosexual couples. A lot of that has to do with stuff like household income, taxes and all that other bollocks that the government gives to married heterosexual couples but doesn’t confer upon same-sex. Same with adoption etc. I mean not too long ago doing your girl up the wrong’un was illegal in many western countries.

People who are against equal rights for same sex couples need to understand that continuing to hold such an opinion puts them on the wrong side of history.

It’s nothing against the people. You’re making it sound so personal. Just because people may be against same-sex couples, doesn’t mean they’re against everything else too like woman’s rights and colored people. They are all completely different issues.

Equal rights are not “different issues.” Equality will probably never fully be achieved but we better damn well try our best to level the playing field. Not necessarily in status, but in opportunity.

But tell me, how are the rights of “coloured people” and women different from that of the LGBTcommunity? You sound like you can’t empathise for the plight of others.

Fine, I’ll be the bad guy and say it………. Problem with equal rights is we are not equal, everyone is different with a huge variety of mental & physical abilities, and financial situations

Adoptions was mentioned as a good example, rules on this are very strict, you must be able to provide a good stable home & family life so if you dont have the income to support a child you cant adopt, if you dont have a home large enough you cant adopt, if you are physically or mentally disabled you cant adopt……….. this is not equality, but that dont make it wrong because it’s putting the needs of a child ahead of the wants of an adult

I recon I can think of more parts of our lives without equality than with it, and mostly for good reasons

I never said we are equal. But equal rights does not necessarily presuppose that people are equal. They just mean different people should have the same rights under the law. Obviously there are extenuating circumstances, like you don’t want to put a child in the care of a mentally unstable person, but elminating those factors, and assuming you’ve got a child up for adoption and a same-sex couple wants to adopt it, why not let it? The only argument against that would be if the same-sex couple were providing worse care than that found at a home, which I think you’ll be hard pressed to find, unless they are abusive.

Discrimination is discrimination which ever way you look at it.

And how do you feel about so called ‘positive discrimination’ ? Places with quota’s of ethnic minorities & women to meet in the workplace who therefor do not necessarily employ the best applicant for the job, so many people apply and put in lots of time & effort with no hope of every getting the position, and it’s possibly the person who would do the best job gets left out in the cold for the same of the PC brigade

And on women, many small employers cant afford the disruption and extra cost involved in getting maternity cover, yet they are forced to

There are many examples where equality has hidden costs, and caused problems, I know Im playing devils advocate here, I agree with most forms of equality………. but not all, and generalising is wrong, there are exceptions to every rule

The clue is in the phrase:

So called “positive” discrimination is still discrimination. It’s part of the bullshit PC agenda that we are forced to pander to nowadays. Discriminating against someone better qualified because they don’t make up an enforced quota is wrong.

Just because I don’t agree with gay marriage means that I don’t feel the pain for others? That has nothing to do with my views on gay marriage. I empathise for people who are homeless, the people who get injure/die in war, the people who are born blind/death. Because I don’t agree with something does not mean that I’m insensitive. I just don’t agree with it, it’s not like I force it upon others. I’m not asking you to agree with me.

And another thing. I don’t believe that the people in same sex marriage are bad people. You’re acting like I’m discriminating against them. It’s the issue that I disagree with.

Hope you don’t mind me asking but what exactly IS the issue?

What is it about gay marriage that you find objectionable?
