eh i’m sure you’ve got plenty of time left on gods green earth or shamu’s big blue waterpark or whatever
More than likely and I won’t be doing anything to potentially reduce my remaining time.
good way to take it. see if you can make it as fun as possible or add a few years if possible
The down side to being off it on chemicals is never feeling like you want to smoke. I’ve had a joint sat beside me for almost 10 hours now.

Oh absolutely, weren’t we all better off when the abacus was the height of technology?

probably, thing still works. run out of batteries and the calculator is just a brick

Good point
I read this book where this US computer dude who is into astronomy went to China in the 80s and the prof was doing a FFT (fast fourier transform) with handwritten notes and rows abacuses. So he hacked together some FFT code on his 1980s computer and showed it to the prof; who was impressed that you could get the graphical data within a few minutes; and said it was “not bad” – but the US dudes data had bad errors in some dynasty!
The prof explained that inthose years they all had a big war so the ancient scholars who would look at the stars had to go into hiding (as big observatory towers are targets) and didn’t get as much data for that series; so he had to do two FFTs and correct for the human error; and using the abacuses made him think more closely when dealing with that data..
I hardly know what a FFT does anyway other than its useful and does things you would need analogue kit to do…
I have seen kids in China doing basic arithmetic to an exceptional standard by 1st learning to do the calculations with an abacus then when you’ve mastered that you do away with the abacus.

Ain’t that the truth. I lost power a few weeks ago for probably less than 5 minutes and I didn’t have any clue WTF I was gonna do if the power wasn’t back on soon.
got 5 small to medium UPS units feeding various strategic kit (telephone exchange; routers etc) and to clean up mains power; and more reserve supplys from +12 and -24V accus. Worst case is I end up using a netbook by LED lamps and only GSM voice and 3G mobile broadband (unless Arqiva have lost mains to the big tower); then its down to 446 MHZ analogue radios
(I keep meaning to get the license for the more hardcore kit but the old guys only do the exams once every year in some obscure places; its silly as I get 96% on the mock exam and all the rest is basic stuff showing that I know the operating methods can operate a communications radio without putting everyones telly off or setting fires with short circuits..). You can send emails and stuff on them and even have bulletin boards a bit like this but there is no privacy; everything is open.
My friend Andrea Partrizia builds all sorts of emergency comms kit as a hobby [but she lives up on a big mountain in Austria]
In keeping with the constant progression of technology, Finland is gonna stop teaching kids handwriting skills and teach them to type instead.
