just watchin it now, not as good as i thought it would be. most of it is just saying stuff that i sort of already know or am not suprised that is going on. the biggest thing i noticed about it is that richard dawkings is actually quite unlikable. just showed me that you can even have fundamental athiests as well. he really lets himself get worked up by it and sort of comes across as the one in the wrong as he lets himself get angry and seems to be quite pompous and arrogant. louis theroux is much better at this if you ask me.
I saw this and am about to read the book, enjoyed it. No massive revelations but I have been an atheist since I was able to reason. Dont think he is a fantastic interviewer but that is quite a skill tbh, should have taken Louis Theroux with him
Dawkins is a Scentist tbh, i want to read his book ‘the evil gene’ i believe it’s called.

Yeah hes at Oxford
In USA people get bullied and discriminated against for being Atheist, we need some Dawkins in the world.
Tony Montana: YA NEED PEOPLE LAHHKE ME!!!
Read the book, was very disappointed, he didnt deliver what he promised. He made out he was going to present a good logical argument for why there ‘probably isnt a god’ but all he did was an (admittedly good and justified) crtique of mainstream monotheism.
He carefully picked his subjects, things like the cosmological anthropic principle were generally brushed over and thrown in the heap with intelligent design and other absurd side effects of religions.
I’d have a lot more respect for the book if it was either more balanced or just called ‘the problems with religion’
Personally I think he’s a bit of a knob because he wants his subjective beliefs to be inshrined in law (eg religion and horoscopes etc made illegal), so he’s just as bad as a fundamentalist christian.
Christians and atheists are like a bunch of squabbling kids who need their heads knocking together. Why cant people realise that religion is subjective, it works for some and not for others and you’re very unlikely to change someones mind with mere words. Learn to live along side each other and mind your own business and everything will fine
However we need total separation of church and state before we can reduce the friction between the communities, I’ll get behind anyone trying to make that happen. Luckily our country is way ahead of a lot of the world in that respect.

The selfish gene… very interesting book. He’s a much better scientist than he is a philosopher

Yeah i thought evil was wrong but CBA to search for it.
His evolutionary meme theory was pretty damn good but i read it years ago so my minds a bit foggy on it.
i found it interesting in the god delusion how he discussed religions being like memes and having their own ‘survival of the fittest’ evolution of ideas
this explains why so christianity with its teachings like ‘no-one can come to the father except through me’ and ‘those who are lukewarm I spit them out’ is so prevailant.
Both these verses cause the idea to replicate itself by saying ‘every other religion is wrong there is no room for flexibility’ and ‘you have to be passionate and outspoken about your religion or god will be unhappy’ – these are the mechanics with which christianity spreads and out-competes other more passive religions.
i appear to have been an atheist before i had ever heard the term, ie, a very long time
bizarrely this is one of 3 books someone has left in my cabin (the other 2 are shit)…gonna read it shortly.
