Gutted personally……….
Not to fussed about parties but there is sum great campin spots on that stretch and my favourite by the Wayland Smithy, wont be able to drive up there soon:get_you:
Gonna go up there for Solstice but hope i dont get moved on
the more worrying thing is a law woolier than the sheep in the fields that can be interpreted however the nimby brigade wish it to be.
it basically gives cops, council officers and whatever nimbys may be around with mobiles (dog walkers etc) carte blanche to watch and monitor all movements of vehicles in the area and report them to the authorities
– and for the black rats to take all sorts of action including random patrols, searches, confiscation of vehicles…
It just shows though how fragile certain “rights” actually are, and how they are interlinked with having the power of being a landowner or farmer; and how powerful the rural nimbys can be…
then again for both parties and 4×4 drivers wasn’t the problem that everyone just piled in and rinsed the area bare, creating a local yokel backlash (like everywhere else in this country?)
a modern “tragedy of the commons”
Although it may take some time for everyone to become aware of this change, in time recreational vehicle use of The Ridgeway will become much reduced. They will still be able to use byway sections of the National Trail in Wiltshire and West Berkshire mostly from May to September only, and a very short section in Buckinghamshire,
ahem…
