yeah things like fair trade do seem to have become much more of an issue, e.g. nike were finally criticised, although i’m not entirely convinced that they and other companies don’t still exploit third world labour…

and this has happened through campaigning by a small number of committed individuals. not a choice career path, just people who belive that the truth must be told. but it is finally having an impact on consumer habits!

hopefully there will be a shift to the left in future years… within my age group here, it’s a pretty even split, leaning slightly to the left. however in terms of the older generation here, it is very very right-wing, a lot of BNP support and a massive majority for Tory. maybe a sign that things are progressing, if the younger generations of a authoritarian stronghold are are moving liberal.

if people are unwilling to wake up and accept the reality that the lifestyles enjoed in the developed world are unsustainable and do something to address that fact, political shades are going to become irrelevant, as economic powers collapse following peak oil

we certainly need to do something about it, but the unity to do something on a big enough scale doesn’t exist at the moment… many people seem to complain about it, but not do anything about. i’m as guilty as anyone in this (although i’m 16 with no transport) but while i decided against going to london to protest the war (what difference is it gonna make…) i’m probably gonna try and head down to the arms trade in london and disrupt it in whatever way.

but to cause any sort of a real change, surely we need commited individuals first and then the masses following (sounds like a fucking revolution… which is good!)…. i can’t see the country as a whole really standing up and fighting for anyting, no matter how much they moan… not for a while anyway…

i love the way the free party movement is symbolic of people fighting for their freedoms, even though it’s been clamped down on since the early 90’s. although i love parties etc. for the music, people and fun, i do really like the fact that imo free parties are in a way a resistance movement… not through violence (like bottling the coppers, that aint gettin anyone anywhere) but through just fuckin havin it raaa

unity is a pipe dream … i would like to see politics fought out on a single issue stage. party politics (and by asociation, democracy as it exists now) is rubbish

    see you there?

oh there’ll be fighting, come the bite from peak oil

me too. i reckon at a free party is a good place to spread positive ideas about alternatives to the sheep / shepard system we live in at the moment; you meet all kinds of people who feel some general, unspecified discontentment with society as it is, but who dont know what to do about it. catch those people and you have a group

agreed, definately. the level of political debate in this country (and probably many others) is really pathetic.

raaaraaaraaa definitely, i’m not sure what exact action i’ll take (whether protesting right outside the fair or chaining meself to somewhere etc.) yet, but as much disruption as possible will be caused hopefully!

another reclaim the streets would be good to see in the UK. would see a massive turnout i reckon.

my gut feeling is that it would be over run by people who have no concept of sustainable communal living though 😥

yeah, it would depend how underground it was kept though. it could attract a few thousand people who are genuinely there to protest, and do have a clue… although many others would catch on quickly… it would be nice to see though, i think if done with a lot of though it could still work…

it’s the same as any protest, like the iraq war ones… most schools in britain, including ours, had a walk-out protest. however the vast majority didn’t give a fuck about the war, and chants of “bomb the iraqis” were started. undermining the cause would be an understatement :yakk:

i was living in south london just before the first RTS happned and there was a community living on land owned by Guiness PLC by wandsworth bridge that invited me… they invited anyone into the community at any time, but especially on sundays, to be shown around

there’s no way that could be pulled off now without thousands of wankers spoiling it for everyone (i reckon)

:hopeless: thats well shit, i know it might work in certain areas of manchester (huge very left-wing activist student following and rave scene), but any big protests really need to be in london i suppose.

whatever happens, hopefully there’ll be plenty down there to show as much opposition as possible raaa

i think if you’re going to start a thread by linking to an article, you should always put your own view of that article

To get back to topic 🙂

That’s true..I sometimes forget that myself :hopeless:

And always remember the link to the story and make sure you make it in a quote..

Sometimes it can look like something we have written ourself because we forget that..

It pisses me off sometimes when we forget, because it looks like we agree with the article, well sometimes we do,but we should write that in our own words:weee:

And i’m no better myself,i know that.. (might as well say it myself before anybody slaughter me):laugh_at:
