they are most likely to think “that message is all in foreign”, and pass the case on to Police Scotland so by the time they get round to looking at it the statute of limitations means they cannot take any action :laugh_at:
it is surprising how many types of hacking and surveillance are in fact legal under UK and EU law (both common and civil) provided you are doing it against a system you own or with the authority of your employers and the end result is for a valid reason. The same applies in the USA. In this case the old router might give up the ghost any time soon and the new one will need the BT ID codes rentered.
I have to have some of my sound equipment linked to VOIP phones airgapped to avoid accidentally transmitting a phone intercept to an online radio public stream (which would understandably be illegal) – although voice intercepts are not really that interesting and matching them up to the correct time/date on some older systems is effort-intensive even when you have all the recordings.
I can even force entry into locked areas in emergency circumstances (i.e. to disconnect equipment that is so defective it is transmitting signals that interfere with safety critical comms, or is electrically unsafe) but at work I would then have to fix whatever door I’ve busted (which is why I have a master key to most areas) and outside I would still have to explain in Court why I took such action. In most cases if its radio interference whoever is making it is often unaware and often co-operative (especially when they learn the cheap laptop / Ipad power unit that is often the source is also quite likely to set their room alight!)
