mad world we live in where it might actually better for the environment to use diesel rather than eco-fuels!

modern diesel engines when used in vehicles carrying lots of people/stuff (such as vans/trucks) driven at sensible speeds, and in trains are very efficient and don’t cause excessive pollution in themselves. its when people buy too much cheap plastic tat and its shipped from Felixstowe to London by road that the pollution gets bad..

BTW I’ve never understood the argument against eating beef because it destroys rainforests, as every bit of beef I’ve had in recent times has come from Britain, and there aren’t any rainforests here. I’ve seen a cow wandering down the street before, was gonna call 999 as I was worried about it getting onto the main road but I saw some old folk looking at it too and spoke to them and they said the farmer was a mate of theirs and theyd tell him to collect it.

not the same argument if you eat that shit from macdonalds tho…

macdonalds is rank and trashes my stomach so I don’t eat it, although in this day and age I’d be amazed if they still use foreign beef as its cheaper to use local supplies due to the logistics of transporting a perishable product – every other burger place does.

Afaik – Catle feed is made from soya and the soya plantations are where rainforest should be … they chop down trees to make space for the plantations.

I suspect this is the case with cheap beef sourced from the USA and the bulk of beef eaten in that country. In England many better farmers don’t use as much soya as in other nations. I’m not 100% sure what the dude up the road from me feeds his cattle on but I think they are just fed on grass and are quite free range (well they must be if they are wandering down the street) :laugh_at:

Even muckdonalds does use British beef these days. I wouldn’t however be so sure about such things as the pies sold at footy matches…

TBH most of the tofu stuff yoghurt weavers eat comes from China and Indonesia via Romford rather than Brazil, where they don’t need to chop anything down to plant soybeans as they were already there .

However it is of course many more food miles than eating local produce, even meat, paradoxically a lot of Asian meat products are made with local British meat…

i can definitely say that the pork pie i ate today, was not pork at all.

i think i accidently got some fishmeal on it too. yuk

there are some very dubious pork pies south of Kings Lynn. the Northerners keep all the decent ones for themselves :rant:its probably easier to get drugs through the country than get these pies down the M1 – I’ve asked about them (a while back a friend of mine with Northern ancestry got his nan to send over a decent pork pie for Christmas). I have never seen such a pie since and been on a mission to find once since 1998 but met a wall of silence.

found this on a random FB link…

Stuart i did haar bout a butcher in thetford (funny ol plearce), wot mearde uncommon good coney pies. arfter the war ol’ bor went to see im to complearne bout the standard o his pies. he say to butcher ‘ blast bor they wuz ever soo good afore the war, but now i rickon they int harf as good’. butcher say ‘ well thass cuz afore the war rabbits wuz efer soo easy t’ cum by, but now they’s right hard to git, since that ol mickey’s matosis, soo now i uses harf rabbit an harf hoss’. well ol’ bor’s eyes they fair nairly a popped out ‘n his hid, ‘n he say ‘harf hoss???’ ‘yis’ say butcher, ‘ wun hoss to wun rabbit’

    :laugh_at: what the hell!!!

i think i might have to make some with some decent pork and see how they taste.. for comparison :laugh_at:
