My first london squat was fucking unreal got the about half 100 hundred or so ravers there police blocked the front door we pushed them down about ten peoe got in then fucking dogs tasers battons came out forced us all to the bak about 200 of us by now then ‘proper’ riot police come force us down this street where we meet the rest of the ravers trying to get in then all he’ll breaks lose police vans tipped few hundred class bottles thrown at riot police now there’s litterally 400 of us smashing everything we can get our hand’ on bottle bank got tipped I got battoned for throwing a bin through a police car windscreen was doing to much on the train tbh will up a few vids later

I find it’s attitudes like this that is making things harder for squat and party organisers. I have seen lots of comments from all over the place “this was my first rave, it was great; we threw bottles at the police, got in a riot and smashed shit up, then got fucked on drugs and danced for hours”.
This makes the police clamp down and it affects many other London crews and party goers. The police are sure to clamp down on squats now. They will need to make an example and show the public that “this sort of thing” is being dealt with. It’s not the organisers fault, it’s the mindless fucktards that think throwing bottles, smashing up police cars, causing chaos and making the police jobs harder will make the situation any better. Yeah, that party was left alone, but how many others are going to now suffer the after this?
then all he’ll breaks lose police vans tipped few hundred class bottles thrown at riot police now there’s litterally 400 of us smashing everything we can get our hand’ on bottle bank got tipped I got battoned for throwing a bin through a police car windscreen
What the fuck did you think would happen? If I were a cop, I would have done the same.
I really wish people would use their heads a little more at parties. Shit like this has the potential to ruin the entire “scene” for lack of a better word.
From a party that got closed the week after:
Police officers started to relax and to communicate with all of us, they explained that the party at the previous weekend has put a huge pressure on them, as it was turned public and it was shown at all media bringing a big issue about security… So they were there to prevent anything like last weekend from happening again and to stop unsafe things to happen.
No doubt they lost a lot of money, time and effort wasted. But who gives a shit about other parties and the time and organisation put into them, this one was bangin’.
Thanks.

Scumoween was an epic night! The venue was good, but I agree it was a bit obvious that the police would turn up within minutes of the info lines opening because of the location.
Can’t wait for Strictly Scum Dancing! On my birthday as well 😀 x
Scumoween ha ha ha

Couldn’t get in as road was sealed off (coming up New Oxford Street route) and given all the riots and extent of police presence actually thought it had been shut down….
Was gutted to learn the party had gone ahead……
dont park your car next to a meatwagon in a riot or bottles will come through the window and snarling police dogs will prevent an escape almost gave up on getting into this one but glad i persevered as it was FEKKIN LARGECORE!! thought all the catwalks from london fashion week were a nice touch. lovely linkups big crowd and a feeling of unity….. SCUM IN MY PANTS!

what were they?
we were debating the buildings use and people were saying there was nothing in there to show signs of use. Now we hear there were catwalks in there?
they were exactly what sheesh says. I even put up a link to the people who rent the building from Aviva (former Norwich union) earlier in the thread.
the entire concept of a older hipster getting his posh arty project rinsed by younger folk from the same culture he is trying to promote and/or feed off is not without comedy value :laugh_at:

yeah I remember your link and stuff I just also remember people saying there was nothing in the building and it was empty. Just if there was stuff in there thats a big clue as to the buildings purpose. And you managed to find it the buildings history online.
Really starting to lose what little faith I had left in the scene. 90% people dont seem to give a fuck about anything other than their own hedonistic pleasure. Scum seems more like some blokes way to an early retirement rather than a free party.

I have a secret passion for 1950s-1980s brutalist and modernist architecture, and industrial archaeology, and tend to do a bit of private research into interesting buildings (especially those owned by the Post Office and BT). its also why I haven’t been too gutted about spending most of my life in London, Reading, Basildon and Ipswich… :laugh_at:
whilst I agree on the first point, on the second there isn’t that much long term money in the music scene (even the legit events). To be fair the “Scum” events now appear to be removing the entry charge for subsequent events and ironically more pressing issues of the cops on their doorstep stopped them collecting it at Scumoween :laugh_at:
I was involved in the organisation of raves from about 1997 to 2005 – many people subsidised these events from their own pockets and day jobs (in them days you could get a relatively high paid job with a fair bit of slack time if you knew even just a little bit a bit about computers) and any money made was “easy come, easy go” – people got ripped off on drugs deals, rigs got confiscated, stuff got nicked or damaged at events etc…
However, a lot of people think buildings are “empty” when they are just between lets. One crew I worked with would watch a building for months before using it just to be sure… this was outside London where you couldn’t afford to make mistakes as the cops would be on your case big time..
perhaps people should make their rigs so ridiculously big that the police dont have enough lockup space to take it away :weee: :laugh_at:

I take your point about the money but if there is no money in it then why did gangs take over things in order to make money in the past? My history is on free party’s is patchy but I thought one of the reasons for its decline was gangs moved in to make cash, violence increased etc. Obviously that’s a massive over simplification of a complex set of events. But thousands of people tenner on the door its not rocket science to work out there must be a fair bit of cash to make. Let alone the amount of money that could be made if certain items were sold. And scum events are held quite often.
*shrugs* I guess in reality its probably a bit of both, cash and passion.
