  • UK press association confirms deployment of TSG (riot squad). Other than the kiddie rave last year in that posh house up West this is only the second time I’m aware of actual TSG being deployed to stop a rave (as opposed to just loads of local cops) in 10 years..

Riot police clash with rave crowd

    (UKPA) – 16 minutes ago

Riot police have been trying to disperse hundreds of revellers at a suspected illegal rave.

Members of the Met Police’s Territorial Support Group (TSG) were called in after bottles were thrown at other officers in central London late Saturday night.

They were trying to move on several hundred people inside and outside a disused building in High Holborn.

Officers were first called to the scene at 11.20pm yon Saturday.

Elements of the estimated 500-strong crowd became aggressive after police asked them to move on, the Metropolitan Police said.

Initial reports suggested a number officers were hurt during the clashes, but not seriously.

now on BBC. reports on twitter claim metpol TSG are actually closing off roads in the middle of London!

BBC News – Riot police disperse 'illegal' rave in High Holborn

I hope my local friends who have attended have had the sense to cut their losses and get away from the frontline….

had a look on twitter (stiill not sure how twitter works TBH!) there are reports of congestion in the area and claims ravers tried to tip a police van but not definite road closures. Most of the reports are ambivalent mild curiosity and some are berating the ravers for causing the road congestion!

fucking hell … sooo glad i didn’t goto this now! … hope every one i know that’s going is safe too!

can’t be too much road congestion at 3am tho tbf

I think those tweets were timed a bit earlier in the evening as the Police operation started at 23:20., from what I remember of London (though last time I went to the capital was 2006!) the centre is always relatively busy even at night… that said I don’t think I’ve been in the centre since the congestion charge or the recession so there could be way less traffic..

it’s still got a fair bit of busstle

apparently the partie’s still going on … a mate recons there gonna raid when the sun comes up

metpol have issued a statement that they have arrested 7 people. A lot of people are now inside the building and are “carrying on” but its unclear how many cops are still in the area.

my experience of situations like this is that the cops do indeed wait until the morning when people are tired, sketchy and on comedowns and then close down the event, or at the very least bust the more blatant drug users/dealers.. and of course its a bunch of new fresh cops who have had a nights sleep up against them..

I certainly wouldn’t have considered it worth paying £40 in travel costs and possibly up to £20 entry “fees” for all this…

Riot police are trying to disperse hundreds of revellers at a suspected illegal rave in central London.

The Metropolitan Police said members of its Territorial Support Group were called in after bottles were thrown at other officers late on Saturday.

They had been trying to move people inside and outside a disused building in High Holborn. Seven arrests have been made for public order offences.

Hundreds of revellers are still inside the building, police said.

Police said elements of the crowd, estimated to number about 500 people, became aggressive after police asked them to move on.

A force spokesman said: “Most of the people are still there. They have gone back inside the building and are going ahead with the rave.

“Officers at the scene have a watching brief.”

Several officers sustained minor injuries, police said. One suffered non-serious cuts to the head.

Users of the blogging site Twitter have reported road closures in the area.

This sounds like a bit of a disaster but not surprising just how big and blatant scum has got. Was thinking to myself last night before bed I bet they dont let it happen. Sounds like a small section of the ravers haven’t exactly helped themselves if the news reports are true.

Hundreds of revellers were taking part in a suspected illegal rave today after a stand-off with riot police.

Several police officers were hurt after bottles were thrown during clashes with a crowd of up to 500 people at a disused building in central London.

Although police tried to disperse the gathering, most of the people at the scene in High Holborn went back inside the building and carried on with the rave.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said the event was “ongoing” and officers were maintaining a watching brief.

At least seven people had been arrested for suspected public order offences.

Police were first called to High Holborn at 11.20pm yesterday.

Some people in the crowd became aggressive after they were asked to leave the area, police said.

Commanders then called in dozens of riot squad officers from the force’s Territorial Support Group.

A Met spokesman said: “Most of the people are still there. They have gone back inside the building, and are going ahead with the rave.

“Officers at the scene have a watching brief.”

It is not known when the gathering will break up, but similar events have been known to run on well into the morning.

The injuries to police officers have been described as “minor stuff”.

One suffered non-serious cuts to the head.

The Met said bricks were also thrown at officers as they attempted to disperse revellers. A number of buildings and vehicles were also damaged.

Three people ended up needing hospital treatment, the force added.

One was the police officer with what was described as a minor head injury. He was discharged.

A woman in her 30s who police said was caught up in the disorder was also taken to hospital with a cut face, while a man in his 20s needed treatment for intoxication.

Police have surrounded the eight-storey building, which is bordered by High Holborn, Museum Road and New Oxford Street, while the rave takes place.

Road closures were also in place around the site.

The rave continued into the morning with deafening hard techno pumping around the surrounding streets.

Hundreds of revellers spilled out onto New Oxford Street, many dressed in Halloween costumes.

Police kept watch but the atmosphere was friendly.

Samanta Coletti and Flavia Pickler, from Brazil, tried to have their picture taken with some officers.

The pair of experienced ravers were armed with earplugs, water and fake blood.

Miss Coletti, 27, a waitress living in west London, said: “We love it. We always go to squat parties, you never find fights, if someone is stealing or harassing girls they are told to leave, you can leave your bag on the floor and dance.”

Miss Pickler, 28, dressed as a toffee apple with her face paint fading away, came on the train from Brighton where she works as a nanny.

She said: “It’s very friendly, you can trust people.”

Inside the space was dark. Some people were dancing, others were barely moving.

Up on the roof one raver lowered himself over the ledge, obscuring graffiti which read “F*** the police.”

But he soon pulled himself back up.

according to posts on urban75 someone actually spray painted an advert including partyline on a wall in the Angel Islington – this happened on the 25th october.. :you_crazy

who the fuck runs these things now, Nathan Barley?

metpol did indeed let the rave continue but are picking off cars at random for drugs busts etc. There are a lot of wagons hidden up at various places around the site to put people in what they decide to nick. No way I’d want to travel 80 miles and risk getting busted and bailed to attend a London police station at my own expense (£40 a time to get to Londonistan these days)

Oh dear that was rather foolish although tbh the number was all over facebook and I did see it on urban75 too. Whoever the hell organises it has some balls (and a lot of money in his pocket right now I am guessing)

Sounds like UKtek got pulled over on the way home after that and threatened with sniffer dogs and what not.

according to some posts the TSG turning up meant the security had to let people in without charging on the door :laugh_at:

the problem with running these basically as big illegal clubs is whoevers doing it will eventually have metpol Clubs and Vice Unit breathing down their necks. This is also the first winter party season with a Conservative government back in power….

if people arrive in cars cops can tell who is local and who isn’t from ANPR (also a Londoner would rarely drive in the centre of town unless they needed to get something like sound equipment in and out of the rave..

just because they don’t get busted there and then doesn’t mean they aren’t being watched. apparently a lot of kids were making “gang signs” at the assembled media.
