hmm – those photos inside the rave have clearly been taken with a decent DSLR (one what can push up the ISO without totally looking like shit).
Although a fair few ravers have these cameras, ormally mainstream journos do not get that far inside a rave and ravers wait until a few days later to put up photos. Worse, the last photo comes from one of them “citizen journalist” sites which are normally filled with free content by wannabe meedja students, who don’t realise (or care) the right wing can take it without payment and use out of context.
The party was still going at 9am… the police tried to raid it but there was a mini riot and they had to let it keep going… there were 1000’s of people there…. Not sure what the craic is now though…

I expect they will let it peter out, nick the obvious fraggles, and then try and get the rigs/organisers when there are less people. I’m originally a Londoner and metpol can make fuckloads of coppers appear out of nowhere when they want to.
what wasn’t good is that when the “riots” happened people started smashing up any cars and buildings in the vicinity – and overturned a recycling bin to get at bottles to throw at the coppers.. that is just sure to alienate “normal folk” :you_crazy
just got back. had an epic time. shame about all the problems with the police this year. fear it might jeopardise next years. orghanisers definatly shouldnt have picked such a central location. thankfuly i didnt clash with the police myself. but did see quite a few scuffles. left the rave when i felt things were gonna turn sour. agree with GL.. i rekon theres gonna be a few rigs impounded when they try to leave

I think its more the blatant way it was advertised. Its going back a few years now but I’ve been to a number of events in or near the centre of London of around the same size.
Perhaps more in Camden / Islington or Southwark than Westminster, but near enough.
This was in times with Tory Governments and also recessions (there was a recession in Blair’s time too, thats what made him decide to start the war) – and yet they happened – but people didn’t go blatantly rubbing it in other folks faces (or on facebook) that they were taking over buildings costing hundreds of thousands, selling and taking kilos of drugs and leaving the building filled with shit and graffiti afterwards.
I feel a bit sorry for squatters what need buildings for home as this will come back on them too.. :hopeless:

Oh dear that was rather foolish although tbh the number was all over facebook and I did see it on urban75 too. Whoever the hell organises it has some balls (and a lot of money in his pocket right now I am guessing)
Sounds like UKtek got pulled over on the way home after that and threatened with sniffer dogs and what not.
urban75 yer here is where they put the nummber out after mate see it on a wall out side his office so he put it on the net for a mate why did he not just pm it to his mate ? stupid or what…. police still did’nt capp it low and they pulled it off so ay cant knock what they done they new what was and could happen after effects doing it so close to london centre… how many people are gonner get congestion thingys throught the post redzone areas no go areas…. madness….

TBH as soon as it was sprayed on the wall the Council would have dobbed it in anyway…. I do think though people have been too blatant…
the only reason metpol coudln’t stop it is because they would have had a 1980s style riot and more innocent peoples cars/business premises being smashed up and more people getting hurt. as its not that bad a “crime” it makes sense for the cops to back off. but this means other Londoners will berate them for “being held to ransom by criminals” and it will result in other parties and squatters/anarchists/activists as a whole being put under more enforcement.
I remember this happening to a mate of mine back in the 1990s.. he thought he’d got away with a load of raves and then BAM! his door at his house comes off on tuesday morning at 6am..
two sets of cops from two different forces (about 10 in total for one man living alone!), they restrain him, tip his decks over and tip all the records out on the floor, let his pet dog loose in the street (main road, luckily the animal didn’t get run over) and basically trash his house and take him down the station for questioning. They didn’t get much info off him and couldn’t prove anything but were unrepentant for the raid – their justification was “how do you like it when your private property gets invaded?”
They kept up the pressure on him for a few years after that, eventually though started a family and calmed down and just gave up partying (after which the cops ceased to bother him).
This sort of thing didn’t happen as much in the 2000s as they were better economic times and we had a more left wing govt (even if it didn’t seem like it) but this has changed…
epic
I really enjoyed it, was my first squat and scumtek 🙂 I missed all the “riot” tho as i got there at 1am. I did notice some coppers been real cunts tho and almost looking to beat up a raver.
to be fair the “riot” was fairly minor by all standards (a similar standoff happened in a licensed club in South Essex a couple of years ago and worse at a legal NYE rave in the same area) but it making the national media isn’t exactly a good thing TBH..

What do you mean by ISO
sensitivity to light what also used to be called ASA on packs of film,
a 100ISO film or camera setting needs more light to get a picture 1600 ISO…
if you have a 1600 or 3200 ISO camera you don’t need to use flash as much but the picture has noise/grain (this happened with film as well)
although its hardly a riot, a police van did get flipped over 😀
I think after all that brouhaha over cracking the newspaper sellers head at that G20 march a year ago metpol have actually become a bit “softer” compared to the provincial constabularies (complete reversal of how it was 20 years ago) – or are they just being smarter? I expect they could have gone in a lot harder but actually knew in doing so that lots of people on both sides would get hurt – which isn’t really worth it to protect a disused building when the cops can eventually bring organisers to justice using other methods.

i agree. there was only 7 arrests, if the police wanted too there could have been countless more considering what did actually happen. there was alot of stuff being thrown at them, the van being tipped AND a group of piggies got rushed at the main entrance
