still had to run the marathon on the way in tho and they were checking everybody then took some people 5hrs plus to get in, the only people i knew that had no problems were the ones that broke in so didnt have to go past security at all!

you were fine once you were in so long as you were carefull, but in and out was like running the gauntlet. searches on the way out is unbelievable!

still only 49 crimes recorded and only 2 for drugs doesnt really justify that massive sniffer dog presense on the way out and on the way in. taking in the piss if you ask me.

as long as drugs remain illegal they don’t need to justify the dogs, the conditions would be “no dogs – no event”.
Also as a friendly event the hospital admissions are most likely to be drugs-related in some way or other…
to get the full picture you’d need to find the other bit of the license (the full document and NHS discussions) but ironically the Council often allow this bit to be classified RESTRICTED for a one-off event (thus allowing them to remove items from a FOI reply..). this is done both to protect the commercial advantage of the event organisers against competitors and to prevent other organisers trying to bargain down the fees….
also if you read the PDF document the license has been granted for the next few years on condition the dogs etc. are there…
sniffer dogs weren’t real (but were lovely and liked having their ears stroked) and the storm drain tunnel was open and unchecked, as was the entire SW side of the fence.
Process – what happened with the van bust though bud?

the dogs seemed real enough mate, they were pulling people out left right and center. made my mates take their whole fancy dress costume off, right down to thier pants. the guy that had his van turned over must have been caught dealing on site and taken back to his van or followed back there, they had a field day went over the lot with dogs and police… risk you take i guess….

communication links and alterations to the admission arrangements to

these are trained to sit and be friendly rather than bark. they are also spaniels, beagles and other common pet breeds found in the region (a rural area with many working dogs) so if people were allowed to bring their own pet dogs and all these breeds have a high “cute” factor compared to GSDs (automatically associated with cops/security industry), small annoying yap terriers or bull breeds so its not surprising confusion is the result here…
behind the scenes this festival must represent a large chunk of a lot of peoples livelihoods or at least extra summer income. They aren’t going to put that at risk by disobeying the conditions the Council attach to their license..
my mate told me the also had an amnesty bin so once you got caught you could have the option of ditching your drugs in thier rather than having to make the cops go through the process off having to take you to court or fill out paper work..

common practice at legal events nowadays – especially as it would be much less of a loss to surrender a small amount of drugs for personal use than lose the price of the ticket and get instead a weekend in jug!
it thus reduces the amount of reported “crimes” but can unfortunately still be interpreted by non-drug users as a sign that the real level of drug use associated with these events is infact being masked (even if its not being tolerated as such).
That said these bins do act as a harm reduction strategy in the long term as their contents are often turned in to the CSI scientists rather than just being destroyed, and provide an independent source of street substances for testing, which is also how the cops, Home Office and ACMD get an idea of what sort of drugs are being consumed at festivals.
most licensing authorities also insist the security is independent from the organisers (and have ways of checking on this) to try and discourage collusion between event organisers and dealing groups to replace the confiscated drugs. Of course this must still happen to some extent, which is where SOCA’s forensic accountants start delving into where the money comes from for each festival! (as a festival is usually run as a limited company it needs to submit annual accounts, these can be subjected to scrutiny by public and govt authorities alike).
bear in mind also that some todays government are my age, some used to be party heads in their hooray henry days (particularly these more “posh” festivals) and thus they “know all the tricks”.
the dog looks very happy and energetic for some reason 😉
