Just make sure you have some encryption on your network, eg WPA, WEP. That is usually enough to stop Joe Blogs using yours by chance

:sign0094: Ive got no idea how to do that or check that i might have it already? :hopeless:

if your mate brought round their wireless laptop and wanted to connect to your broadband, do they have to enter a code number in (usually on a label on the side of the router?)

my mates never been round with his laptop so dont know really… cheers for the suggestion tho.
any other ideas of how to check?

find the ip of your router(in its manual) and type it into internet explorer or firefox and it will come up with the homepage of your router look around for a menu with encryption in and if it is encryted it will say there.

I’d suggest getting a network cable and plugging in your computer on this when you do try it just in case you trash the settings, or you will be locked out of the internet!

yea good point, forgot about that, its especially important if you are updating the routers firmware otherwise if your wireless disconnects while updating it not only will you have no internet you also have an expensive doorstop!

Right cheers for the advice, but i think i may have wasted your time… As i am a total mong as i dont actually have wireless internet! (i think..)

    :idiot:

If your router has an aerieal you do…and you might just not be using it.

That makes it far easier to skank as you will be unlikely to have set any security up nor monitor it.
