My brother moved out of my parents house about four months ago to start up his own business telecommunication company in Toronto. About a month ago I moved in with him to start working with him to build up his business. When I first arrived to his apartment, never seeing it before I just could not believe the mess that had taken place in those three months of him finally living alone. The place was disgusting and most of all is his work area is covered in tangled cords. I offered to clean around his area, but he always yells at me.
How can I come across this sibling rivalry? Any suggestions?
On my break yesterday I was surfing through Google and I evidently came across this picture that reminded me exactly how his work area looks.
Best method … talk to him! … alltho you must make sure you aproach him when you are both getting on well (if you never get on then pick a moment when you’re not arguing and he doesn’t look like he’s pissed of) .. and make sure you use tact .. ie. don’t go in guns blazing .. just level with him.
explain what’s bothering you .. eg. “we are brother and sister and i would like to get on better with you” … ect. try not to point out the negatives too much … mby start by saing something that you enjoy about spending time with him then mby highlight an issue and don’t leave it at that give a solution as well – but not a demand and don’t blame him (even if it’s his fault as he’ll probably get pissed off – just offer a way you can both work together to make things better.
eg. … “It’s really nice when we have them heart to heart chats/get along … but when you get pissed off at me i don’t like it .. i would prefer to get along … and i am only trying to help out … mby if i’m doing something that anoys you, you could just let me know and i’ll stop doing it.?”
hope it goes well 🙂
Is that a link to your brothers company?

I’m a telecoms engineer (amongst other roles) and have had a phone system in the last two houses, my extended family live outside the UK and we use the phone a lot for overseas calls. When I was living at home with my sister and the cat I had to tidy up at least some of the wires other than the ones going into the CCU (the main bit of a phone system) and fix them to the wall as the cat would pull them out, and he sat there looking smug when I had to fix them and got a shock off 100V ringing voltage…
My mum is currently staying at my house in Ipswich as she is back in England for a bit, but knows better than to move or tidy up stray wires, nor switch off computers left powered up in the stairwell or anything in my room with flashing lights on it “to save electricity”, as that means all the telephones in the house stop working and she can’t use the net!
Often these cables are carrying live calls/data so its not a good idea to shift them, people work from home a lot these days and route office calls through their home networks (I’ve done it for business continuity when the leccy has been switched off at my office in bumpkin land). People expect stuff to be done quickly and test system/labs are often set up at home.
the state of that punchdown block (the wiring in the first pic) is horrendous, all the pairs are misallocated too… wherever that was I’m amazed any of their phones work! Even Openreach’s worst cable monkeys aren’t that bad!

Only child…lucky you!! I wish that was me. The only reason why I flip out about these things is because I brought my two month old kitty with me…I just really cannot imagine if anything could happen to her and plus the mess is a huge ordeal for me.
I have been on PartyVibe for I think a year or if not longer now..Just sort of so I can talk to people, share stories/parties and well help out with some other people too. I really enjoy helping others and making there day 🙂
How about you? What brings you to PV?
