Does anyone else think it’s possible that the smoking ban could encourage pissed off “clubbers” to enter into the free party scene?
With a lack of rules and restrictions at free parties maybe disaffected clubbers (and I’m not talking about your average Friday night “Ritzy’s” type – more the sort who attend legal hard dance nights) could be looking for somewhere else to hear underground music, party, have a good time and dare I say it generally get off their faces.
Maybe an influx of new people into free party culture could be the best thing to happen to this scene in a while…..
maybe, but it was probably one of the first things the cops thought about and they appear to have prepared for it accordingly by stepping up enforcement. TBH anyone who is an underground clubber can usually find a free party easily enough, if they can’t find one its probably more because there are less happening, or their circle of friends are less inclined to drive 2+ hours to the location (especially now cops are seizing cars!)
its costing them loads but the cash is being authorised out of reserve budgets put aside for the anti-terrorism work – authorities now think that the problems caused by raves and the risk of youths getting into problematic drug use is as destructive as terrorism.
also there are sadly too many people already at free parties who can’t handle the “lack of rules” and are making it look like the clampdown is justified.
if anythiing I’m noticing more people (albeit reluctantly) going back to legal events (especially as the new TENS license makes putting them on easier).
I’ve been to a few legal events in london recently and to be honest the smoking ban hasn’t really bothered me and my mates.
Everyone i spoke to at the ministry last fri actually prefer the ban, As we all had to go outside it brings ppl together and we were all united in the fact we were smokers!!! :group_hug
i love going out and getting some “freshair”
this smoking ban has realy put a spanner in the works for my tire burning hobby…
You can tell it’s getting bad when you canny get served at the bar with a burning tyre any more – hard times
Better off going to the offy then you can make hash trays out of the empty cans 😉

I’ve got a new hobby now. I empty used car battrys into rivers to watch fish float to the top
I hope you scoop ’em up and cook ’em over a tyre – be a shame to waste fresh fish 😉 I know someone catches fish by firing up a genny and putting 240V through the water seems to work as well. You just gotta remember to turn off the genny before you touch the water
not lookin for a fight but isn’t that a bit wasteful?
as sad as this sounds. i havent been ‘clubbing’ since the smoking ban was enforced but intend to very soon so i can’t quite report on how having to go outside to smoke is for me. i did however go to the glade earlier this year, which was a few weeks after the smoking ban came in. the covered stages such as the vapor and overkill stage had no smoking signs up but to be honest lots of people (including myself) were smoking left right and centre. i think its harder to enforce at a festival than in a club, either that or people weren’t really that bothered…hopefully the latter. i think security were too busy trying to keep tracks on any trouble. not too sure if they will take the same approach next year.
I’ve started going out seal ‘clubbing’ instad coz you can smoke at the same time!
(it gets worse)

perhaps you could wear this??
Not really – you only run the genny for a minute or two.
omg. v good. how far does the current run? how wide a diameter gets affected an how many fish does it get at a time?
(am actually thinkin might be great for a trout farm but not so hot for a local river, ya get?)
