  • Tekhan, first off, thank you for taking the time and trouble to reply.

This is a very difficult problem indeed.

Having read your reply I am still somewhat confused about your position on current legislation. Do you believe the government have got it right?

Regarding gangland crime money. I agree, taking away their largest revenue stream would not stop other crimes. However, surely you can agree that depriving organised crime of their number one earner could not be viewed as a bad thing regardless of their other activities.

You make a good argument that black marketeers would exploit the ‘price gap’. Though this might be true under a particular set of circumstances it is pure specualtion as it relies on the huge assumption that a change in legislation would automatically mean a rise in drug prices. This is not necessarily so.

One thing is for sure. From any angle you look at it the current legislation does not work at all. Anyone who wants to can get any drug they want.

So where do you actually stand on this. You have attempted to knock down many of the comments I have made and that is fine. But what is your position on all of this?

Your reply read like ‘whatever is done all the probelms will remain’. To me that is somewhat defeatist.

Do you have any positive suggestions on the subject or was the reply intended to simply counter some of the points that I put forward?

I suppose my point is that it is a fact of life that people will do drugs. Rather than forbidding and incarcerating our society needs to be educating and informing.

If you are going to reply, and I hope you do, please do not limit yourself to knocking over the skittles I keep standing up. Let me hear your ideas rather than negations of mine.

Do you believe that the ‘status quo’ should be maintained? Or, like myself do you believe that this huge social problem needs to be addressed and alternatives sought?

One last thing, you called me ‘Judas’. Maybe a joke, maybe to provoke mild offence. Not really sure why you did that. Perhaps you’ll be kind enough to explain.

The above thread was a response to a post that has seemingly been removed.

    Enlighten me : )

each to their own. I very much doubt theres anythin i can enlighten anyone on…its a very broad debate….is the alternative to having a war on drugs living in an even more agressive world than we already do or a more peaceful kind one????

Ill agree with whatever policy delivers the latter….

My first thought would be that if one group of people were to stop forcing another group of people to live in a certain way then that would be one step forward on the road to peaceful co-existance.
