Wasn’t he going to hunt you down at one point?
here’s a bit of info which when you think about it is both amusing and depressing at the same times…
a secret – from 2002-2004 the PV moderators were only able to report posts (same as any other user), not to edit posts or move things around or look at user profiles. Also guest posting was fully active until 2005 when a troll from SJ ruined it for both SJ and PV.
There wasn’t any real need to moderate things on PV – back then you could put up not just a party line but the actual region and feds did next to fuck all about it, people by and large were friendly in their discussions.. so all we actually had the red user names (the colour scheme was all different back then) and couldn’t actually do anything much.
However lots of people including otherwise relatively mentally sound party folk avoided PV because there was “too much moderation”, even though the mods actually didn’t do anything until well into 2004… and the only reason the admin functions were enabled was because cops had finally started to use forums to find evidence about raves, rather than to deal with problems caused by users arguing…
not sure what this means about the psychology of ravers (or self sufficient communities as a whole) but its not a particularly positive situation from where I’m looking at it,..
so basically what your saying is PV did the intelligent thing to preserve the raving community and they threw it back in PVs face?
i agree
unfortunately yes.
Another reason why a lot of people from round this way and SE England walked away from here was they felt PV was “too serious” and had “too much bad news / boring/long posts” – even though in reality it was a mixture of light hearted and sensible stuff.
if you look at old posts from 2004/2005 there’s posts from Biotech and Binge warning East Anglian ravers to respect the non-raving community and the environment more or “zero tolerance will follow” – I posted similar stuff for SE England ( I then llived in Reading) but it was all ignored..
of course the cops were then dealing with much more pressing stuff, such as the fallout from the start of the global resource wars such as Islamic terrorism.. but this was quite quickly neutralised (as the cost of permanently losing a lot of civil liberties) and then the cops had spare resources to stop raves, particularly in the coastal areas of East Anglia where the Muslim community are peaceful (TBH I think coastal areas have to be multicultural by necessity)
have only themselves to blame – certain people take stuff too far.
its a shame though when those of your age group and a couple of years older sign up here and ask “where are all the raves?” and there’s fuck all for them now because most of the region is on zero tolerance
and its worse when the more stubborn ones of 17/18+ decide to drive 200 miles to a Midlands or SE England party (having only just passed their test), and then stack the motor on the way home when sketchy and sleep deprived… this started happening from 2006 onwards as cops clamped down more back home plus also “Norfolk” ravers tryed to get away from their region so they wouldn’t be “stereotyped” – in reality the Norfolk party scene is no worse than the same in any other rural region of England…
before the scene imploded here I had an interesting (if harsh) conversation with a lad from round here who confirmed that at least 10 people below age 25 had died in EA linked with the party scene. roughly half had died from overdoses, the other half from road traffic collisions. Thats almost half the amount of casualties of East Anglian soldiers in Afghanistan. I thought the party scene was supposed to be fun, not a fucking warzone!
people are taking it too far, i dont know whether its ignorance, or arrogance.
arrogance for the older lot and ignorance for the younger imo
