Is that some new rule? both my mum and dad smoked cigarettes when I was a kid. mind you probably why I took it up (1988 until 2009).
Recently I did half seriously look at obtaining a pipe. As where I live, it is still the done thing in spite of all the smoking bans and health warnings for chaps to walk, cycle or drive to the coast, and light their pipe and look across the North Sea at passing ships. And irrespective of your nationality (as maritime communities are obviously very multicultural) you can get away with saying “aaaar” to foreign tourists and use your pipe to point out interesting nautical things (though here usually just broken glass and dogshit on the beach)
And they also do that in DK, NL, SE, NO and DE, where the best pipes and baccy are found.
but an older friend from an electronics forum was very ill recently and thrice in Addenbrookes (thankfully he tested clear) and he wasn’t sure if it was some high power transmitters he worked on (basically he helped design most of the mobile phone network in Europe as well as other stuff) or smoking a pipe and kilos of tobacco… Maybe when I am 50 or 60 I will get one.
