  • Right, so I’m back off the wagon (not through choice) and my alcohol problem has now reached epic proportions. I have managed to quit the benzos but find I’m going into early stage DTS every 5 hours or so. I’m having to hit vodka (just two measures) at work now just to stop the shakes and sweats. I carry a hip flask everywhere.

I just don’t know what to do! 🙁

Stop drinking, it will not be easy, but focus on friends, family, and the things that are truly important to you. No addiction is easy to overcome, but those people will be there for you and able to help you through it. Good luck

Super glad you’re off the benzos, poly drug abuse is alot more of a bitch to can than a single substance. that said from my short time on here you seem to have been falling off the wagon alot…

If you have to work then going through DT’s really isn’t an option and i see why you’re drinking if you can’t function you can’t work if you can’t work you won’t have a roof over your head.

if you could taper the drink a little bit here and there then perhaps you could have DT’s every 6 hours for a while then every 7 or 8 ect ect until you’re better. but whats the point if you’re gonna keep relapsing? it might just be better to be a functional alcoholic.

my heart goes out to you, addiction is a no fun, i’m ~2-3 years clean at the moment and never went the meetings route, so i yoyo the idea around my head of returning to substances but at present it doesn’t appeal to me enough. Used to basically turn any psycoactive substance into a fiendish game of abuse. either you catch some godly lucidity on the way down or you don’t and even if you catch it; it may not be enough. To swing things exestiental, perhaps some of us are destined to be addicts or maybe it is in our biology if post darwinism is more your thing.

By the way, me saying stop drinking I did not mean this needs to be necessary. You still need to be able to function, and jsut remember, it is a long road and you are heading in the right direction. If it takes a few drinks to be able to function, DO NOT beat yourself up over it, you are doing the best you can with the situation you are in. I quit cocaine after 2 years strait of doing it and i was doing between a 8ball to 10 grams a day, depending on my mood and work schedule. I quit it cold turkey due to me realizing I was losing my family for a drug that would do nothing for me. Cold turkey is not an option for everyone. Do what you can, look to the road ahead and never look back because you may get turned around and end up going the wrong direction unwillingly.

Did you try going to one of your local AA meetings Chrisp?

Haven’t been to AA yet, the tapering down is slowly starting to work for me though. I’ve drunk the bearest minimum today to just about keep the sweats at bay. Tiny steps but it’s looking more positive. No benzos for a while. Only need to wake up once during the night for a drink now.

I’d say I’m starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve finally started to focus on other things. Have lots of little projects on the go.

I was a bit worried for a while when I felt like I was going into DTs even while drinking but it turned out that I had accidentally overdosed on my prescription Prednisone!

hi chrispy have you looked at the 3 drugs on the market for alcoholism, the drugs are for DTs and cravings their called antabuse, nalrexone and acamprosate the brand name for acamprosate is called campral is the only medication that claims to reduce alcohol craving. It also reduces the physical distress and emotional discomfort people usually experience when they quit drinking.hope this helps my friend.eeezyuk and out
